The Horse Barn is a converted farm stable in the grounds of the owners grade II listed farm house; Holly Farm. The barn is situated on the North Norfolk coast, in the coastal village of Happisburgh, surrounded by idilic views over open farm land. It is situated off the B1159 coast road from Ingham to Bacton. Happisburgh has an iconic red-and-white striped lighthouse, which is the only independentl

y operated lighthouse in Great Britain. It is also the oldest working lighthouse in East Anglia having been constructed in 1790. It is open to the public during the summer. Other attractions include; an owl sanctuary, St Mary's church, the local public house and café's. Happisburgh has sandy beaches that are a ten minute walk from the barn. The Horse barn has vaulted ceilings and exposed beams throughout. The main living area is open plan with a well equipped kitchen and a sofa bed for additional guests. The master bedroom has a double bed and large wardrobe space. The bathroom has a large walk in shower.

Digging holes on beaches is a popular activity, but it carries hidden risks including sudden sand collapses, suffocation, and injuries to other beachgoers or wildlife.

Safety Rules for the Sand

• Keep holes shallow (no deeper than the knees of the shortest person in your group).

• Avoid digging tunnels or steep vertical walls, which collapse very easily. The unstable nature of sand, especially when dry, means it has the potential to collapse quickly and without warning.

• Fill in all holes completely before you leave so nobody trips or falls into a hidden pit. Holes dug in the sand can be particularly difficult to spot, especially as light begins to fade thus presenting a danger to other beach users.

Here at Cart Gap beach, we have recently seen holes dug at the bottom of the RNLI ramp, on both sides, and not filled in. These holes are being particularly tenacious and are not naturally refilling with sand as quickly as we would like. This is making use of the ramp more challenging and potentially dangerous if accessed from the sides.

Happisburgh Coastwatch is manned from 9am to 6pm daily throughout the summer, helping keep you safe when enjoying our beautiful coast.
