Southwell is steeped in history- probably its most famous visitor being King Charles 1st who dined here in May 1646. The Cathedral doesn’t appear to have changed much from this pic and is still a magnificent building for a wee countryside town. In 956 the Archbishop of York founded a church here The Minster was built to replace it during the 12th and 13th centuries. We couldn’t imagine it without its pepper pots but these were added as a later addition in 1801 It gained Cathedral Status in 1885. Southwell has more historic and listed buildings per capita than York I was reliably informed recently. A much loved town in
