The NORTHERN LIGHTS (Aurora Borealis) last week on the hill above Island View were astounding.
Come and see them in March and even in April:-
There is an increased chance to see the Aurora in March 2026 due to
• The sun currently being in a high activity phase (solar maximum)
• The spring equinox often triggering stronger solar activity
Significant solar activity can cause sightings into April. Viewing requires a strong geomagnetic storm, dark skies, and a clear, north-facing horizon.
• Come and see them for yourself - we still have a few weeks available. The peak season is September to March. We are in a Dark Sky area of Seil enhancing the displays and on evenings with no Northern Lights we have a magnificent view of the stars, planets and shooting stars.
If you are having a cosy night in beside the fire at Island View, we will let you know if the Aurora are out so you don’t miss them.

OCTOBER BREAKS. October is a wonderful month to visit the Isle of Seil and we have 2 weeks available.
The light on the hills and sea can be perfect for stunning photographs along with all the autumn colours. October days are often fresh and bright, perfect for walking and there are beautiful walks straight from the door with incredible views out to the mountains and hills of Mull and Ardnamurchan. Sea eagles and Golden Eagles are frequently seen on these walks.
If it is drizzly or wet, Island View has huge windows where you can sit and watch the changing light on the sea beside the wood burning stove. Also, there is the local museum and tea rooms on Seil and the neighbouring islands, just a short boat ride away.

Our wonderful museum on Seil in Ellenabeich, run by volunteers, has beautiful old photos. Here is the Bridge over the Atlantic in the early 1890's and the Tigh an Truish in the early 20th Century. Come and see this informative museum and the one on Easdale and the Atlantic Centre on Luing to learn about the Slate Isles and the lives of the quarry men.
We have just a few weeks left available for renting Island View (end Sept and 2 weeks in Oct). Relax in this very comfortable house with fabulous views, doing very little or choose from many different activities exploring Seil and neighbouring islands. Driving, walking, cycling, swimming, bird and wildlife watching, visiting standing stones, duns, forts, castles, cafe's, seafood restaurants...lots and lots to keep you busy for over a week!

We have one week available in July and one week in August. Come and experience the stunning views from the house, the garden and the deck. See the osprey, golden eagles, white-tailed eagles, wading birds and the hedgehog and deer! The long evenings are perfect for sitting out or having a late walk enjoying the sea views and watching out for otters. Our guests love Island View (see the 5 star reviews on Google maps). Guests at Island View say they love coming here and seeing the deer, otters, red squirrels, hedgehogs, rabbits, golden eagles, sea eagles, osprey and wading birds. However, it is also magical watching the smaller visitors to the garden and nearby wildflower meadow such as the lizards and slow worms.

Every field around Island View has beautiful wildflowers. I especially love the orchids and my favourite is the delicate white Butterfly Orchid. Our guests love the local walks seeing the flowers, the wildlife and the spectacular views of the sea, islands and mountains.

Last week I saw, flying over Island View, an Osprey carrying a fish- it was a wonderful sight.
This week I have seen nearby an otter, a newt and a red squirrel.
I have never seen a red squirrel for so long up close. It spent 10 minutes foraging before taking off up a tree.

It feels like spring and summer at the same time with the bluebells out and 32 centigrade in the shade!
There are lots of wild swimming spots nearby to cool off looking for the otters and seals. Or walking in the shady beech woods or just relaxing in the garden watching the birds (including the White Tailed Eagles and the Golden Eagles) and wildlife.
We still have 2 weeks available in July and 2 in August. Come and experience a slice of paradise for yourself!

There are short walks straight from the door to be able to watch the sunsets which are magnificent just now. The sunrises you can see from the garden over a cup of tea or you can star gaze from the deck. You can learn your constellations from our books and view them and the moon with our high powered binoculars. The clear skies are giving us glorious sunny days and beautiful clear nights.

Do you have pet allergies? If so you can be 100% confident that no pets have ever stayed at Island View. No dogs have ever stepped a paw into the house, sat on the sofas or slept in the beds. There are no unpleasant odours in the house and we have hypo allergenic duvets and pillows. You can book with confidence knowing that when you arrive it will be spotlessly clean.

This is my favourite season at Island View with the warm sunshine, the birds singing, the blossom and fresh leaves on the trees. It is so peaceful sitting on the deck watching the wading birds, the ever-changing view and the boats coming and going. A perfect way to recharge the batteries. We only get midges on 1 (or maybe 2) days in the summer, even on the sheltered deck, so we are extremely fortunate because then guests can enjoy sitting outside and eating outside when the weather is so great in spring and summer.
