Oban's harbour is almost a perfect horseshoe shape, protected by the neighboring Island of Kerrera and the Isle of Mull further out.

Like the coastline infront of own grounds, it regularly plays host to these fiery orange sunsets as the last strips of light flash across the bay.

In the 1700s, Oban was just a small village with a few fishermen's cottages. However, life changed in 1794 when the Oban Distillery opened. 🥃

We’ve had some lovely sunny spells at Loch Melfort recently, and when they arrive, there aren’t many better places to catch them than from the suites overlooking Asknish Bay.

An Oban itinerary perfect for history lovers.

After an early morning coffee and an unrushed breakfast at Loch Melfort Hotel.

Take a morning stroll around the grounds and say hello to the Highland cows and goats.

(for a bonus walk) follow the path to the end of the garden, where you'll find NTS Arduaine Gardens.

- Hop in the car and drive south to (history buffs looking to add another stop can also pull in to visit the ruins of Carnassarie Castle on the way)

Park at the car park at Kilmartin Museum and explore the stones in the graveyard next to Kilmartin Churchyard (the Kilmartin Stones)

- Visit Kilmartin Mjuseum (from 25th June to 1st September 2026, ticket prices have been reduced as they pass on the benefit of a UK Government VAT reduction scheme): £5.77 child, £15.40 adult, £13.47 concession, £32.72 family.

Are you dog-friendly? It's one of the questions we're asked most often, and the answer is a definite yes.

Four-legged guests are always welcome in our hotel, and we even have a few treats waiting for them in our shop. One of our favourites is the Arran Dog Bakery range, with plenty of fun flavours to keep tails wagging.

If you're bringing your dog away with you, don't forget to let them choose something too! 🐾
