Some reviews stop us in our tracks. ❤️

One of our recent guests has been returning to Melfort Village every year for more than 40 years.

They talked about the cottages, the pool, games room, tennis, restaurant and everything there is for different generations to enjoy - but said the real highlight was our wonderful team.

For us, that captures something very special about Melfort.

A holiday may begin with your first cottage booking… but you never quite know how many family memories might follow.

🐦 Feed the wild guests of Melfort!

We know how much our guests enjoy feeding (and watching!) the birds during their stay, so we've given our feathered visitors a little upgrade too.

We've recently renewed the bird feeders around the resort, and our Melfort Wild Pantry at Reception has grown to match!

As well as bags of bird seed and nuts, you'll now find fat balls, mealworm suet blocks and handy mixed wildlife packs — perfect for putting out a little bit of everything and seeing who comes to visit.

Prices start from just £2, with our Mixed Wildlife Packs at £3.50.

Pick up your favourites from Reception, fill up a feeder and keep an eye out for who's coming to dinner. 👀🐦

The tables are set… now we just need the guests! 💚

🌿 Feature Friday: A Day on Kerrera

Just across the water from Oban lies Kerrera — a little island that feels a world away from the bustle of town.

Leave the car behind, hop on the short ferry crossing and you've got a wonderful day of walking ahead: quiet tracks, huge views across the Firth of Lorn, sheep for company and the ruins of Gylen Castle waiting near the southern end of the island.

Built in the 16th century by the MacDougalls, Gylen occupies one of those positions that makes you wonder whether the spectacular view was part of the defensive strategy. It's worth the walk for that alone.

And then, importantly, there's cake. ☕🍰

The Kerrera Tea Garden is a very welcome sight after a few miles on foot — and one of our favourite parts of a day on the island.

💡 Melfort Insider Tip: When you get off the ferry, most people turn left and follow the route towards Gylen Castle. We go the other way and walk the circuit anti-clockwise. You'll have a much quieter start to your walk and, by the time you reach the castle and Tea Garden, the first rush of walkers has usually moved on.

It means you get the peaceful side of Kerrera first, the castle as your reward... and hopefully a slightly shorter queue for cake. 😉

Good boots, a camera and an appetite recommended!

Imagine this being your spot for the week… ☕📖

A quiet window seat, a good book, nowhere you need to be — and seven days at Melfort stretching out ahead of you.

Farm Cottage 1 is available from 29th August and we have a rare full week available for a late summer escape.

And if the Scottish summer decides not to cooperate? There's a very comfortable cottage (and a wood-burning stove!) waiting for you. 😉

💚 “It’s lovely because we don’t have to go anywhere – the kids just want to be here.”

Something one of our guests said to us this week, and we rather loved it.

There’s plenty to see and do around Argyll, but sometimes the best holiday days are the ones where you don’t actually go anywhere.

A swim in the pool. A game of tennis. A wander down to the loch. The kids heading off to play while you sit outside with a coffee (or something slightly stronger 😉).

No itinerary. No rushing about. No need to tick anything off a list.

Just being here.

And, as it happens, this is Melfort this afternoon. 💚

🌊 There’s something pretty special about leaving Oban by sea…

Our lovely Lucy captured this view last week as she set sail from Oban on her way to Barra - and we couldn’t resist sharing it. 💙

Blue skies, sparkling water, islands on the horizon and that unmistakable feeling that an adventure is about to begin. ⛴️✨

One of the things we love about staying at Melfort Village is having Oban and Scotland’s incredible west coast right on our doorstep. Whether you’re hopping aboard a ferry for an island day trip or simply exploring closer to home, there’s always somewhere beautiful to discover.

🌒✨ LOOK UP! SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL IS HAPPENING THIS WEDNESDAY…

This Wednesday, 12th August, we’re in for a pretty spectacular sight at Melfort Village as one of the most impressive solar eclipses visible from the UK in decades takes place! ☀️🌑

Here in Scotland, around 90% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon, creating a dramatic crescent in the early evening sky.

And where better to watch the skies than Melfort? With our beautiful open surroundings and views towards the west, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on the sky.

⏰ The eclipse begins shortly after 6pm
🌒 Maximum eclipse is around 7pm
👀 Look towards the western sky

☁️ The forecast is currently suggesting cloudy spells for Wednesday evening… but this is Scotland, and you never know your luck! 🤞 A well-timed break in the clouds could be all we need to catch a glimpse.

⚠️ Please remember: never look directly at the Sun. Proper certified eclipse glasses or an appropriate indirect viewing method are essential – ordinary sunglasses are not safe.

And the celestial show doesn’t necessarily end there… the Perseid meteor shower peaks on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, so keen stargazers might want to keep watching the skies. ☄️🌌

Who’s hoping the Melfort weather gods are on our side? 🤞🌒✨
