From 21st April, guests staying at Barcaldine Castle will have the option to enjoy relaxed evening dining right here at the castle.
We’re working with local supplier Creran Graze to offer beautifully prepared grazing boards, perfect for sharing and enjoying at your own pace. Think local produce, generous portions, and a simple, informal way to spend the evening.
Our Residents’ Bar will also be open from 6pm to 8pm, serving a selection of drinks to enjoy in the Great Hall, the Laird’s Parlour, or out on the patio.
Grazing boards are available to order directly with Creran Graze with a minimum of 48 hours’ notice. This offering is available exclusively for overnight guests.

🏰 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲
Each winter, while the castle is closed, we carry out repairs and improvements behind the scenes.

Last winter’s project focused on the Great Hall, where we removed the Victorian lath and plaster to reveal the original 420-year-old stonework beneath. It was a messy job that took three months, but the result has completely transformed the space.

With the stone exposed, the artwork in the hall now stands out in a way it never has before.

The work itself was far from straightforward. All electrics and pipework hidden behind the walls had to be carefully rerouted or traced in. During the process, we uncovered an original lintel from the early 1600s, built using tree branches. The stone arches above the doors and windows were also revealed, an important part of the castle’s structure and defence, supporting the weight of the surrounding stone.

One of the highlights of a stay at Barcaldine Castle is breakfast, served in the morning light with views across Loch Creran.
Guests can begin with a buffet of fresh berries and seasonal fruit, cereals and Scottish yoghurt, alongside pastries, juices and coffee.
From the kitchen there is a choice of cooked breakfasts, including our Full Scottish with bacon, mushrooms, tomato, baked beans, free range eggs and both local pork sausage and venison lorne sausage supplied by Forest Field and Glen.
There is also a vegetarian option with MacSweens veggie haggis, bubble and squeak cake, mushrooms, tomato and baked beans, as well as lighter choices such as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, porridge with cream and brown sugar, omelettes or a cold plate.
It’s a relaxed start to the day before exploring the beauty of Argyll.

The snowdrops around Barcaldine Castle are looking beautiful just now🤍
Quiet signs that winter is slowly loosening its grip and spring is on the way.
Snowdrops are one of our most loved wild flowers, appearing between January and March and pushing through the cold earth with a sense of hope and new beginnings. They feel especially fitting at this time of year, as the castle rests and prepares for the season ahead.
We reopen in 8 weeks’ time, and behind the scenes the team is busy with maintenance and preparation, getting everything ready to welcome guests back for another year.
We still have availability in the Lochnell, Airds and Argyll bedrooms for Easter weekend, and all Easter guests will receive a complimentary Oban Chocolate Shop Easter egg as a little seasonal treat.
We’re very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back soon.
