PERLE OF WISDOM 💡 If you're heading up to McCaig’s Tower while you’re in Oban, there’s a shortcut!

Jacob’s Ladder is a flight of 144 stone steps connecting the lower town with the streets above, providing a direct walking route up towards McCaig’s Tower.

And there’s a reason for the name. “Jacob’s Ladder” has traditionally been used in Scotland for particularly long, steep staircases, referencing the biblical ladder reaching towards heaven.

Oban isn’t alone, Edinburgh has its own Jacob’s Ladder, with another 140 stone steps to tackle.

Oban is already making plans for Christmas. 🎄 Dates for this year’s Perle Oban are beginning to appear in the diary, with the Opening Parade and famous Creel Tree Switch On set to take place on 13 November.

We’re already seeing our own festive dates beginning to fill at Perle Oban too. While we’ll close for a couple of days over Christmas itself to give our team a well-earned break, there’s plenty of time either side to enjoy Oban at this time of year.

Guests staying at Perle Oban can book a complimentary 30-minute Thermal Spa Experience at Mara Spa.

Sessions are available daily between 10.30am–12.30pm and 3.30pm–5.30pm, so it’s an easy one to fit in before heading out for the day or when you get back to the hotel.

Sessions are shared with other hotel guests and spaces are limited, so booking is essential. Speak to reception when you arrive or email [email protected]

Fancy going back around 5,000 years for the day? 👀

Around a 45–50 minute drive south of Oban, Kilmartin Museum tells the story of one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes, with finds from across Kilmartin Glen helping piece together 12,000 years of human history.

And don’t just visit the museum. Head out into the Glen afterwards and you can see the landscape the artefacts came from, including standing stones, ancient burial cairns and the Temple Wood Stone Circle.

Definitely one to add to the list if you’re staying in Oban and want to explore a little further into Argyll.
