Old postcard - Ballachulish Hotel is just around the corner and many remember the wait for the Ferry over to Loch Leven - skilled craftsmanship of this stretch of wall - the weather seems to be the subject on the back of the postcard which was posted in 1931.

We're very proud that Glenfinnan Monument NTS is the cover shot of the National Trust for Scotland 2025 Calendar! 😍📆

Take a five-minute walk up the path behind our Visitor Centre to capture the view for yourself (it's looking mighty fine in the autumn colours right now) 📸🍂

As a charity, we rely on the support of our members, visitors and donors to care for hundreds of Scotland's most cherished natural and historic places, including our fellow Lochaber property, Glencoe National Nature Reserve NTS, which also features in the calendar this year 🏔️🥰

Every penny you spend with us makes a difference! 💚🙏

Lovely sunny blue-sky day here today 🌞💙

A beautiful photo from this mornings sunrise looking over the mountain resort taken by our on sight photographer.

We can’t wait to see the landscape in its white coating soon 🎿⛷️
Today is a stunning bluebird day at the resort.

Do you think we’ve changed much over the years? Our building may be familiar here today on the High Street, but almost 100 years ago, it was home to A. Macintyre & Sons, a Ford service station right here on the corner of Monzie.

Back in the day, Fort William was buzzing with change at the turn of the century, as cars were making their way onto the highland roads, and businesses like Macintyre’s were at the forefront of this transformation. Tourism began to take root during the 19th century, especially with the increasing popularity of mountaineering and walking holidays. The imposing presence of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain, attracted adventurers and climbers to the area. As travel became easier, more visitors from Britain and beyond began to explore the Highlands.

This photo is part of a fascinating collection published by The Granite House, featuring rare images of Fort William from circa 1890 onwards. The book offers a unique look at the people, places, and stories that shaped our town—complete with stunning street scenes, early mountaineers heading for Ben Nevis, and glimpses of the West Highland Railway.

Whether you're a longtime resident or just passing through, this collection offers a captivating glimpse into Fort William’s vibrant history. Stop by to explore the past in person, or pick up your own copy of the book to take the journey home with you! 📚
