Crystal Brook is a cosy single-storey modern house, offering a warm welcome, in a relaxing atmosphere.
We are situated on the coastal road mid-way between Kirkwall and Stromness, in the quiet village of Orphir. This makes us a perfect base to travel across the whole of the Mainland. We have off-road parking on-site, making it easy to unload and load the car and two comfortable double en-suite bedrooms with king size beds. One room can easily be turned into a family room with an additional cot-bed or fold-down bed.
In order to keep our guests and ourselves safe during the Pandemic we have decided to only let out one room at a time, unless it is to a friend or family bubble, this means guests will have exclusivity. We have also changed the guest sitting room into a breakfast room, with extra seating so guest can still use the room during the day, to make hot drinks or help themselves to cold drinks, crisps and biscuits, all of which can be enjoyed whilst taking in the stunning views over Scapa Flow.
We offer a varied breakfast menu but will endeavour to meet guest’s dietary requirements, as long as we are given advance notice. After breakfast, there are plenty of interesting ancient and modern sites to visit or if you like walking we have some fabulous hill, loch and coastal walks to try. There are several beautiful beaches both sandy and rocky where you can enjoy a picnic. We are close to Houton Ferry Terminal should you wish to travel to Hoy to visit the Lyness Museum albeit the temporary site as the original site is undergoing renovation. There is also the Lifeboat Museum or you could drive to Rackwick Bay and walk to the Old Man, one of the most famous stacks in the world, if you do this there are plenty of sea birds to spot and watch out for the Mountain Hares and Sea Eagles on Hoy. Finally if you are interested in sea wildlife, there is plenty to try and see,, the seals and if you are lucky Whales and Dolphins on the costal walks, Otters around the coast and lochs and there are also several RSPB Bird Reserves, were you are likely to see some interesting and even rare birds.
