On Wednesday, a pod of around 10 orcas were spotted by fishermen off the Northumberland coast.

In 2025, there were five verified sightings in Northumberland, showing an increase in visits from the species, since there were only a handful between 2000 and 2024. A reason for this could be their diet, as they feed on fish, seals and sea birds, which are rich in population around the Farne Islands.
