Two more members of the Bowhayes team, on the one day of the year they're officially allowed to steal the spotlight.

This is Pippi - our eleven-year-old Sprocker, calm and endlessly affectionate, who follows me around the farm from morning to end of day and considers cuddles the most important part of any working schedule.

And this is Ruby - a two-year-old Fox Red Labrador who is, to put it kindly, still working on the calm bit. Utterly lovable, powered by tennis balls, hands out kisses to anyone who'll take one, and has a deeply peculiar habit of licking the sweat off Mark's legs during coffee breaks (Mark bears this with more patience than most of us would).

Caught here at the office door, doing their two very different jobs - Pippi wondering where I've got to, Ruby probably wondering where the ball is.

☀️🌧️ A summer of contrasts at Bowhayes Farm

From a sodden spring to a very dry summer, this year has been another reminder that there’s rarely such a thing as a “normal” season on a farm.

Phew it’s still hot in the office… the a/c is struggling! Thankfully a cool cider is awaiting..

It’s so much nicer under the cider apple trees..!

What a glorious day! Thankfully it’s far cooler under the shade of the trees!

A pleasant group of friends came and enjoyed the tranquility of our cider orchard last night. A very different and relaxed post-prom celebration than in my youth!

This Friday and Saturday - the orchard is open. If you've been meaning to come, this is it. The cider apple trees are blossoming and it's one of the most beautiful areas on the farm.

Bowhayes Blossom - a free community event at Bowhayes Farm.

The blossom came early this year - which means so have we.

For two days, we're opening the orchard gates to our neighbours and the local community. The cider apple trees are almost in full blossom - walk through at your own pace, bring a camera, stay and enjoy the beauty.

We'll have the nursery café open with homemade cakes and hot drinks, and the tree nursery will be open to browse.
