Here's to another 40 years at the Shark House!
40 years ago today, residents of New High Street in Headington, Oxford, awoke to an extraordinary sight: a shark apparently crashing nose-first through the roof of broadcaster Bill Heine’s home at number 2.
An Oxford landmark was born.
The painted fibreglass shark weighs around 200kg, measures 7.6 metres long, and took three months to build. Its installation was deliberately timed to coincide with the 41st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.
