So 12 years ago our “new” amenity block and shelter were newly completed! Made such a difference to camping here at Jubilee House. No more emptying of lats into Pooh Corner, and a (drain) pipe dream turned into reality thanks to fundraising.

We have had night time visitors - they look to be going round in circles here, but there’s also lots of mole hills at the base of the flagpole mound too. I’m sure they enjoy being at Jubilee House as much as our groups that visit from Girlguiding and Scouts. 😬🤣
Did you know that it’s mole ( Talpa Europaea) season from now until June, they need to eat 50gm of worms a day to survive, and can tunnel upto 200m a day working in 4 hour shifts! It’s a misconception that they’re blind - but they are light sensitive, and their ears are internal, situated behind their shoulders!

The new lighting is almost fully installed. Thanks to the electricians , but a huge thank you to Steve who has brilliantly project managed it for us, from initial visits & report, to sending out and managing the tenders.
Hopefully all our users will find it brighter and our treasurer will find the bills reduce!
The bathrooms now have sealed/ waterproofed lights.

Next job … improving the heating system (a bit trickier as it involves council planners).

Interesting visitors have been to Jubilee House … footprints around the assault course and near the flagpole, and lots of hair/ furry stuff left behind!
And, not connected at all, there was a bus at the end of the foggy road … proof public transport does head close by!

Jubilee House has been special to Girlguiding Oxfordshire members since the land was first leased at a very generous peppercorn rent, and then even more generously given to us by Sir John Thomson in 1987.

We have a hall (with an equipped kitchen, 2 leaders’ bedrooms, showers and a patio at the rear with tables) that can be booked for meetings, events, overnight stays and holidays by Girlguiding groups (and other organisations).

Our campsite has a range of equipment to hire when you book the site, and an amenity block (with showers) and shelter should you wish to stay for one night or longer.

In the grounds you’ll also find a campfire circle and fixed play equipment (assault course) as well as the wooded areas that can be explored.

Visitors can also explore the heritage of Girlguiding by visiting OxArc ( our onsite archive store).

The Oxfordshire Pioneering team keep their equipment onsite, and they can be booked to deliver a pioneering session.

We are just outside the city of Oxford, within a lovely rural setting. Although the public transport is limited it is possible to visit historic Oxford and further afield.

To find out more, take a look at our page on the Girlguiding Oxfordshire website, where you will also find the calendar for booking your visit: https://oxfordshiregirlguiding.org.uk/jubilee-house/
