✨ Wherever you are — look up tonight ✨
Right now (early February), the headline act is Orion, sitting high and bright in the evening sky — easy to spot from its three “belt” stars, and a brilliant one to show children because it’s so recognisable.
This week the Moon is still very bright (just past a full moon), so it’s more of a moonlit landscape vibe than deep-dark stargazing — but it’s still a gorgeous time to be outside for ten minutes and just look up.
When we’re open in the summer months, this is where Fox Wood really comes into its own: we are located within the South Downs National Park International Dark Sky Reserve, and many camping families make a little tradition of it — blankets in the meadow, eyes adjusting to the dark, and that quiet moment when the sky starts to reveal itself.
⭐ Summer sky highlights to plan for:
Meteor season: the Perseids are the crowd-pleaser — active mid-July to late August, peaking around 13 August (weather permitting).
Best “wow” nights: aim for darker, moonless nights (around a new moon) — you’ll see far more than on a bright-Moon week.
