One of the joys of exploring the Yorkshire Dales is that every village and market town feels different and has its own special charms. Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale initially seems to consist of a simple elongated High Street, packed with independent shops, cafes and pubs. It's a steep hill, stretching upwards towards the moorland. Pateley specialises in hidden ancient alleyways and small cobbled courtyards, lovely little corners with a bench where you can sit and watch the world go by.

Anyone in need of a bit of a pick-me-up will enjoy its vibrant floral arrangements and bright blooms. Pateley is a great base for anyone who wants to discover more of the Nidderdale National Landscape.
It's also start of the Nidderdale Way, a 53 mile circular walking route, and close to other attractions such as Coldstones Cut, How Stean Gorge (dare you try the Via Ferrata?!) and Studfold Adventure Trail with their very popular nature and fairy trails, and Scar House Reservoir.

Wander into some of the alleyways and side streets and you'll quickly discover there's more to Pateley Bridge than meets the eye. One of Pateley's best known attractions is The Oldest Sweet Shop In The World, full of traditional delights.

Anyone who has a sweet tooth is in for another treat at Cocoa Joe's UK. They serve the best Mocha I've ever drunk - and I've carried out some significant research... I could get completely side-tracked just writing about this one little gem. Lots of places say they serve hot chocolate but what they really mean is hot-water-maybe-milk-poured-over-powder. ​Cocoa Joes offers a choice of chocolates (with a tasting bar...), which are ground to make the most incredible, indulgent, delicious drinks imaginable. I digress...

Across the road, enjoy excellent coffee at Wildish cafe, HQ for Wildish Club. At the bottom of the hill, Wildings Riverside cafe has really good pastries and a lovely welcoming atmosphere.

Wander around and you'll discover some other hidden treasures, including the wonderful little Nidderdale Museum, Pateley Bridge and don't miss Pateley Makers Yard - King Street Workshops

​​At the bottom of the hill is the River Nidd and the bridge the market town is named after, a fantastic children's playground and the elegant bandstand. ​Discover great walks and more about Pateley from the friendly folks at Nidderdale Plus, where there's an info point with leaflets and advice.

May I take this opportunity to thank all our kind, respectful, and wonderful guests who have stayed at Hilltop Snug, Pateley Bridge, over the past 3 years. All good things must come to an end though. I have taken the decision to sell Hilltop Snug and so will no longer be taking bookings. It is for the best of reasons though and my heart is full 🥰.
Thank you whole heartedly to the amazing team at Ucanca Valley Ltd cleaning, headed by Fernando, for the diligent cleaning they did and maintaining such high standards. Our guests always left such wonderful reviews on the level of cleanliness. I would like to thank Ian. He has been nothing short of amazing. He has hosted, he has been chief repairer, he has overseen necessary maintenance work, he has touched up painting, put up stair gates (they were fun!), put up pictures…,the list is endless. Ian is just the tops and Hilltop Snug would not have been as successful as it has been without him 🙏🏼. A huge huge thank you to Sarah who is the queen of laundry!!! I have never known anyone love their job as much as Sarah. She washed and pressed the bedding and towels after every booking and brought it all back pristine and smelling like roses!!!
Lastly, a big thank you to Pateley Bridge and its wonderful community. Cocoa Joes for the amazing chocolates I gifted our guests. Kendals and Weatherheads Butchers…..your pies are amazing 😍You have opened your arms to our guests and have been the most wonderful hosts. Pateley and Nidderdale is such is a warm welcoming, picturesque area and one that I shall hold close to my heart forever. Thank you to all concerned.
