The sun setting on our school summer holiday season - what an extraordinary summer for camping it has been!

A huge thank you to all our summer guests for making it so memorable and enjoyable for US! We hope it has felt the same for you!

We remain open for camping, and for our luxury glamping pod, until the morning of Sunday October 18th (with a week closed from September 21st to 27th). We close for yurt and safari tent glamping on September 20th.

Camping is...listening to the patter of rain on canvas and exploring even when - especially when - it's raining!

A wonderful heron encounter for us at our Stackpole end of the beautiful Bosherston Lily Ponds this morning.

There's always a natural wonder of some sort to be seen at Hidden Bridge, which is just below the lawn of the old Stackpole Court manor house. A 30-40 minute walk from our campsite.

Our tip for a non-beach day - follow the sculpture trail at nearby Upton Castle Gardens!

A real gem of a place, with a great cafe in a tipi, and weird and wonderful sculptures and artwork around every corner.

We usually only offer Saturday to Saturday week-long stays during the summer, so this is a rare opportunity!

Dobby's Grave, Harry Potter fans' memorial to fictional character Dobby, has been back in the news this week. So we thought we'd repeat a simple plea from the back of our greetings card that we sell on site!

Visitors created this 'burial mound' to commemorate the burial of Dobby the house elf, a key scene in the Deathly Hallows movies flmed at Freshwater West in 2010. Some fans leave socks on Dobby's Grave, in reference to Harry Potter setting the elf free from enslavement by gifting him an item of clothing...

Fresh West is a 15-minute drive from the campsite and is a stunning, wild, rugged beach in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

This week's news credits Dobby fans for having diverted the route of an underground power cable between Wales and Ireland, completed last year. It's belatedly made the news this week with the release of a podcast quoting a project director who sited the fans as the reason for a last-minute route diversion to avoid going through the sand dunes where the 'grave' lies.

Regardless of movies, or construction diversions, the beautiful sand dunes of Freshwater West are part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest and are protected by law.

So, even if you are a die-hard Harry Potter fan, our simple plea featured on the back of our Freshwater West greetings card is this:

"If you visit, please do not add socks as a gift to Dobby (socks are just litter)."

Our eclipse experience overlooking Freshwater West last night. A beautiful, happy, summer festival-vibe of a spontaneous gathering to witness and marvel at a natural wonder 👌🏻

This reflects all that is good in our little world! Generations converging outdoors beneath the awe of our skies.

That's really what Stackpole Under The Stars is all about too! (Hence the name!)

Look out for the teeny eclipse crescent shape that dances across the video in the camera's sun spot! 🌙

It won't be dark like these photos, but our little corner of South West Wales is one of the best places to see the biggest solar eclipse in more than half a century, tomorrow evening!

According to The Met Office, Western Pembrokeshire is expected to see up to 96% of the sun obscured on Wednesday, August 12, making it one of the best areas in the UK to watch the spectacle.

Our campsite always offers superb views of the night sky, and you need to look to the yurt end of the field to observe the eclipse, which will occur from 6.15pm to 8.07pm.

If you're not staying with us, among the best places to watch nearby are the wide open beaches where you'd normally watch the setting sun, such as Freshwater West and West Angle Bay. Broadhaven South should be good too, as it's an official Dark Sky Discovery Site.

Wear eclipse glasses or use a homemade pinhole eclipse viewer to safely view the eclipse.

Families love our campsite! This summer we've hosted a 5-month-old first-time camper and a 90-year-old veteran camper...and everyone in between.

It's an overused word these days, but wholesome is the right word for the kind of holiday your family will enjoy at Stackpole Under The Stars!

From game play to beach play, from shared dishwashing to recycling duties, we see everyone from grandma to grandkids chipping in together, having fun and making forever-memories.

Our 2027 calendar opens in November - get in early for the summer holidays as by New Year we're usually full for camping!

Oh and there's still a yurt available the week of 22nd to 29th August this summer!

Freshwater East beach dunes are full of fabulous sea holly at the moment!

A firm favourite for us, with its gorgeous violet coloured stems, blue spiky leaf and lilac flowerheads.

Fresh East, as it's known, is also a great place to try spotting glow worms, and for sparkly bioluminescence in the sea at night!

All this just a 15-minute drive from the campsite ☺️
