Incase you’re wondering; dad’s feet are firmly back on the ground (they never really left); as we start lambing in earnest.

He prefers the hills, sheep and dogs to the (one off) modelling, although alongside, Bruce, Oscar and the tups they made a strong Eastside ‘talent’ menagerie. And he throughly enjoyed taking the shoot to the pub!

The ‘47 Clean Up is now genuinely worn in Scotland, in the Pentlands, shepherding sheep.

A vintage B275 International, a wee tractor returning to the Eastside hill farm after many years. The scale perfect for our 18th Century farm yard. Built before machinery out grew it and the farm was powered by great wee machines like this; many men, women and dogs on foot.

Times change but some things remain the same. The old sheep hefts, the sheepdogs, the shepherds, the love of the land and the old tractor in the farm yard. Welcome home.

Looking for a quiet country bolt hole this Easter look no further than our last remaining cottages & cabins at Eastside.

Slow down; curl up with a good book after a long walk in the hills. Light the fire, soak in the hot tub or steam in the sauna. Listen to the bird song and the gentle bleating of the spring lambs.

The bookshelves, stacked with our favourites are an evolving collection. This year we added ‘Winter in the Highlands’ by It is a glorious book, like a warm hug on a blustery day it is an ode to winter and a beautiful reminder of all we should love about the colder months. Although we head into spring the snow still falls outside our window. Flora reminds us - through her wonderful way with words, food and drink - to embrace it:

‘When the weather is dreich, the palette of dark greens, almost inky-black trees fade into bracken-rich browns, before seeping into frosty-covered chestnut and cinnamon. Lastly it darkens again to a deep plumb at the top of a heathery hill.’

Flora and her wonderful family stayed with us in the blustery winter last year. Wild, blustery and dreich; that wonderful Scottish word that so perfectly describes some of the wetter days.

Our wee Pentland sauna; a labour of love. Warming the yurt using wood harvested on the farm and filtered spring water straight from the hill.

We light, stoke and heat the sauna for 2 hours, bringing it slowly up to temperature, buckets and cool plunge filled, Finnish sauna robes folded. A slow travel experience using only our local Pentland resources. Magic.
