Seren Wib Holiday Cottage

Seren Wib Holiday Cottage Seren Wib is our much-loved holiday cottage, set on the edge of the hillside village of Rhyd, in the heart of Sowdonia.

Seren Wib, our much-loved holiday cottage, has far-reaching views of both the surrounding mountains and the coast. The cosy cottage provides two-person (but there is room for a travel cot), high quality, well-equipped, comfortable accommodation and is attached to (but completely independent from) the main house of Dan y Ser. There are numerous mountain, lake and forest walks which can be accessed

directly from the cottage. The Italianate Village and Gardens of Portmeirion, coastal town of Porthmadog, miles of sandy beaches, Aberglaslyn Pass and the popular village of Beddgelert are all within a 15-minute drive. The gardens of Plas Brondanw and Plas Tan y Bwlch are within walking distance of the cottage; as is Tan y Bwlch Station for the Ffestiniog Steam Railway. Seren Wib is also fortunate in having an excellent local shop/café/delicatessen as well as two popular pubs providing excellent food (The Brondanw Arms and The Oakeley Arms) all within a ten-minute drive. Seren Wib is ideally situated for walking, driving, cycling or simply relaxing. Weekly lettings are from Saturday to Saturday in the summer months and from Friday to Friday in the winter months to also accommodate weekend and mid-week breaks. For more information and to check availability please contact Rosie Russell on telephone 01766 770627 or email [email protected].

Spring has arrived in Snowdonia at long last! My, what a long winter it seems to have been with plenty of volatile weather nearly blowing us off the hillside at times. Lambs are arriving down in the valley and the ewes up here around Rhyd are patiently awaiting their arrivals. We will be looking skywards over the next few days hoping for the return of our beloved osprey - our Lady of the Glaslyn. Her favoured date is around the 19th of March so fingers crossed! A trip to Bodnant on a mild and calm day was rewarded with daffodils and magnolias - although in the garden at Dan y Ser Tony's 6 year old magnolia has flowered for the first time and it was worth the wait! We have a fine forecast for the next couple of weeks with plenty of sunshine on the cards which is why it is such a shame that we have had a last-minute cancellation for Seren Wib for the fortnight 19th March until the 2nd April. If you are interested in a last minute break of either week or both weeks, please email us on [email protected] and we will get back to you straight away!

Spring is certainly in the air here in Snowdonia, the lambs are being born around us, daffodils are in their prime, the Glaslyn Ospreys have returned, the birds are busy nesting and we even saw two swallows yesterday, which is so early. We are delighted to be able to welcome guests back to Seren Wib at last (from within Wales at the moment but from across the border from the 12th – fingers crossed). We are also very pleased to welcome our first guests to Seren Bach, our little mobile home down at Aberdunant Hall. Wishing all our past, present and future guests at both Seren Wib and Seren Bach, a very Happy Easter.

This year has been very difficult for so many people and we are so grateful for the love and support of guests who have become our friends over the years.

In these strange and worrying times, I thought we should share our blessings here in Snowdonia and to reassure our Seren Wib guests – past and future (not present unfortunately!) that when all this is over, the mountains, the sheep and all the other delights that make this such a wonderful place, will still be here.

Here are some photos and films we have taken from the garden over the last few days, and we hope you enjoy them. The weather has been beautiful – so lovely for the lambs. So, the sun is shining, the lambs are in abundance as are the primroses and nesting birds. Our Lady of the Glaslyn Osprey returned from Africa on the 21st March for what will be her 17th season (she must be over 20 years old) and her partner Aran, a few days later. He is being very attentive bringing her plenty of fish as they start to get their nest ready – I wonder if they have noticed how very quiet everywhere is as I think they might be rather fond of the Welsh Highland Railway passing nearby but all is silent on the tracks. The swallows have also returned to Rhyd and we await the sound of the cuckoo.

We wait, hope and pray that this time will pass as all things must and we can get back to sharing this beautiful place with our guests and we thank you all for your continuing support and faithfulness and for all the guests who have simply transferred their booking to next spring, we can’t wait to welcome you either for the first time or as a much valued returning guest.

Happy Easter to you all ###x
