At Kitty House Scandi-inspired holiday retreats in Troutbeck, North Lakes. Simple, stylish stays in the lake district. Your peaceful getaway starts here

21/09/2026

Kitty House is changing around the edges.

The barn, the garden, the field… and a few ideas we’ve been quietly working on.

There’s a lot to do, and it’s going to take time, but we’re looking forward to seeing it all take shape.

We’ll show you as we go.

Before the next guests arrive, there’s the full reset, fresh beds, clean floors, bathrooms, kitchens and all the little details in between.

It’s the behind-the-scenes bit of running a holiday retreat, but there’s something quite satisfying about getting everything ready again.

Then the door closes, and it’s ready for the next stay.

There’s something rather good about coming back from a long walk in the Lake District when the weather has been doing its thing…

Wet boots off.
Fire on.
Glass of w**e poured or a hot cup of tea.

And nowhere else you need to be.

We always love hearing what guests have thought of their time at Kitty House.

So, rather than tell you what we think, here are a few words from the people who have stayed here.

We’re so grateful for every review, and especially for the guests who come back again and again.

There’s plenty to do around Kitty House without getting in the car.

Great Mell Fell is right on the doorstep, the local pub is just a walk away and you can catch the bus to Aira Force and spend the day exploring Ullswater.

Or you can stay put, sit on the patio with a coffee and enjoy the view.

Sometimes a day in the Lakes doesn’t need much of a plan.

Which would you choose?

It’s Great North Run day.

A little bit different from our usual Kitty House posts, but today is a special one for us.

I’m running for Encephalitis International — a charity that is very close to our hearts, as our daughter had autoimmune encephalitis when she was just three.

So today I’ll be putting the trainers on and hopefully making it to the finish line. Wish me luck!!

If you’d like to sponsor me, I’d be incredibly grateful.

A little bit of between guests life at Kitty House.

A couple of cleans, a freshly cut lawn, quite a lot of weeding, swallows going mad outside the bedroom window and a trip into Penrith for all the little bits and pieces we put out for our guests.

Two lovely stays came to an end over the weekend, and today another guest arrived.

It’s been a little warmer again the last couple of days too.
