Join us at Brougham Hall this week as we take part in the Heritage Open Days programme.

Mary will be taking visitors on a walking tour around Brougham Hall Highlighting it history and future - we had 25 visitors join us on Saturday and expect this to be busy too.

The tours will take place on Wednesday 16th and Saturday 19th September at 2pm. Cafe will be open and galleries and workshops will be available to view, as well as the current Eden Valley Artistic Network exhibition in our Tudor Byre, featuring 8 artists from around the local area. Tours are free as is entry to the site, which is relatively flat but not very wheelchair friendly.

Brougham Hall CIC are a newly formed Community interest Company set up to run the hall and preserve it for future generations as well as creating spaces for small arts and crafts businesses to thrive.

Brougham Hall is also home to the Red Wyverns, Society who will be taking over the lawn and bring history to life on the 19th and 20th September. Come see our encampment between 1100-1600 and learn more about what life was like in the 15th Century. The events are from 11am to 4pm.

The Hall is an important historical site but is also invested in the future of culture in Cumbria, hosting a community of artisans with shops, exhibitions and talks on the calendar as well as larger events.

The motorway is due to closure for several weekends soon meaning we could see diversionary traffic through Hackthorpe. 😞

Advance warning: overnight full carriageway closures on the M6 this August 🚧

We’re expecting to complete the installation of permanent expansion joints at M6 Lowther Bridge by the end of August. To work safely, we’ll need to close the M6 in both directions between junctions 39 and 40 on the following dates:

🔹 Northbound closed • Saturday 8, 15 and 22 August (10pm–6am)
🔹 Southbound closed • Sunday 9, 16 and 23 August (10pm–6am)

Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place via the A6.

Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey. 🕒 Remember: closures may change at short notice.

Great walk!

Looking for a new walking route this Summer? How about the Eamont Way, a 5.5 mile walking route from Penrith Railway Station to Pooley Bridge Steamer Pier.

The route follows the course of the river Eamont, crossing it twice. It starts with a series of signed pedestrian crossings from the railway station to the edge of the town, then follows a series of signed footpaths, bridleways and ‘permitted paths’ to exit at ‘The Sun Inn’ in Pooley Bridge. From there it is less than 1/2 mile to the pier for the Ullswater Steamers where onward lake travel to Howtown and Glenridding is on offer and onward from Glenridding to Aira Force.

You could get the bus back into Penrith for just £3 single fare!
