New every Friday: what’s on at The Quiet Site and around Ullswater this weekend

A little rain on the way this weekend, but plenty to do.

The Gathering is on in Penrith with free live music, food, art and workshops, and a covered stage, so the rain won’t spoil it. Aira Force will be at its best, the Ullswater Steamers keep you dry, and the bar fire’s lit from 4pm.

I am now in charge of the poppy sales
My sales technique:
✅ Sit next to the tin looking adorable
✅ Stare at you until you put a coin in
✅ Wag my tail when you do
✅ Stare a bit harder if you don’t
I have been told very firmly that I am NOT allowed to eat the poppies, the pins or the tin. This is a very serious job and I am taking it very seriously (apart from the eating bit, which I’m finding hard).
Every coin goes to the Royal British Legion to help the Armed Forces community, and that matters even more than biscuits. Almost.
Pop in to reception, pick up your poppy and give me a pat. Treats for the receptionist are gratefully accepted but not required.

The Swinging Turtles are playing the Quiet Bar, and they're seriously good ☑️☑️☑️
They perform an eclectic mix of genres including swing, rock, indie, blue grass, jazz, blues - and all with energy and there own style 🐢
You don't need to be staying with us to come along. Just bring your friends, grab a pint by the fire and make a night of it.

Our friends at Hiking Highs are running guided Deer Hikes in the Ullswater Valley until the end of October.
It’s rutting season, when red deer stags roar across the fellsides and lock antlers to win over the hinds. It’s one of the most dramatic sights in the Lake District, and there are only a few weeks left to catch it.
Hiking Highs know the quiet routes and the best spots to watch the action without disturbing the herd. They’ll also share stories of the valley along the way.
Wrap up warm, bring your binoculars, and get booked in before the season ends 👣

Hello, it's me, your canine receptionist.
This week I have:
✅ Welcomed every guest with an enthusiastic tail wag
✅ Checked the bar floor for treats (not many)
✅ Supervised the pizza oven from a safe and sniffable distance (still no sausage)
✅ Attended a team meeting (slept right through)
✅ Checked the heating in the services (perfect temperature)
✅ Inspected the site for the new saunas (looks cool)
✅ Tested the dog-friendly Gingerbread Houses, Hobbit Holes and Camping Pods (perfect)

The leaves are falling, the fires are lit and the clocks go back on Sunday. That's an extra hour for walks, and you know how I feel about walks 🐕
