A Michelin-starred restaurant with rooms in our historic family home
Askham Hall has been in our family since 1724 and is now home to Allium, our Michelin-starred restaurant. It holds many happy memories for us, is very special to us and we’d like to share it with you. We invite you to make it your own, whether it’s for your time dining with us, for a night, for your wedding or while you take it o

ver exclusively for your own celebration or event. Enjoy our own home-grown, home-reared produce, wander our kitchen gardens, read the dedications in our family books, curl up in our library in front of the fire, take an aperitif in our Drawing room, lay your head for the night in one of our bedrooms. Askham Hall seems grand, and it’s certainly a beautiful building, but at its heart it’s a family home and so it’s lived-in, loved and relaxed – with well-worn flag floors, big squashy sofas, stacks of books, jugs of flowers from the garden and art and antiques that we’ve grown up with. Hosted by Nico Chieze and Richard Bracken, the evening will feature a four-course banquet created by Richard Swale and his Michelin-starred team, accompanied by a carefully selected collection of wines chosen to capture the flavours of summer.

Expect exceptional food, outstanding wines and plenty of stories, insights and conversation along the way.

Noma Art Events: The Garden Table🌿

A day of flowers, food and art at Askham Hall.

Join us on 30th June for a slower kind of day.

We’ll spend the morning drawing in the gardens, enjoy a guided walk with head gardener Colin Myers, lunch in the conservatory, and an afternoon creating botanical paintings on canvas inspired by everything we’ve seen.

No experience needed. Come on your own or bring a friend.

All materials, lunch and a glass of wine are included, and you’ll leave with your own finished artwork to take home.

Job Description:

We have opportunities to work with two of our great teams at Ciel Hotels.

Our wedding and events team at the historic Askham Hall and also The George and Dragon, Clifton, our bustling coaching inn.

We are currently seeking a full-time or part-time kitchen porter who will report to the Head Chef. We are open 7 days a week and therefore there is a requirement for evening and weekend availability.

In return for your dedication and hard work, we can offer a rate of £12.75 plus gratuities, pension, staff and family and friend benefits (including room rates and discount on food and beverage), on shift meals and staff training across all aspects of the business. In addition, the Askham Collection is a very dynamic, expanding business, with further career opportunities throughout the group and its sites.

We are looking for the right person with immediate starts available if required. Whilst previous experience can be an advantage, full training will be given, and a friendly and proactive attitude is equally important to us.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the National Garden Scheme Cumbria open garden yesterday! You all made it such a special day, and it was a pleasure to welcome you all on such a beautiful sunny day.🌷

We're incredibly proud to have shown off the gardens at the height of summer. With all of your support, we raised plenty of money for brilliant charities like Hospice at Home. Thank you to the whole team and everyone involved in making it such a special event.

We look forward to next year's open garden for more sunshine, wood-fired pizzas and everything garden-related! 🌿

This Sunday, 21st June, we are delighted to open the gates of Askham Hall for the National Garden Scheme Open Day.🌷

Join us for a relaxed summer afternoon exploring the grounds, where the kitchen gardens and borders are at their seasonal best. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet our gardening team and learn about the work that goes into maintaining these spaces throughout the year.

The day features a special appearance by award-winning garden designer Jamie Butterworth, who will be signing copies of his book, alongside complimentary art sessions with NOMA Art. You can browse plant sales from Pinetree Nurseries, enjoy coffee and cake from the café, or treat yourself to one of Mark Teasdale’s wood-fired Askham Hall pizzas.

The gardens will be open from 11.30am until 7pm. Admission is £8 per adult, with free entry for children under 16, and well-behaved dogs on leads are very welcome. All proceeds from admission will be donated to the National Garden Scheme and the charities it supports. We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be a beautiful day in the gardens.
