Jesmond Cottage

Jesmond Cottage Charming 18th century cottage in Stainton, Cumbria on the edge of the Lake District.

As a child I lived in the Lakes with my parents, attending primary school in Cockermouth and secondary school in Keswick. Since leaving, I have returned as often as possible, always having that feeling of returning home as the fells came into view welcoming me back. Over the years I have regularly returned, bringing family and keeping in touch with old friends as we explore the fells, lakes and s

urrounding countryside. My father and I shared a long-standing dream of owning a property in the Lakes - but turning that into a reality took decades. In the end, it was the passing of my Mum that provided both the means and incentive to actually do so - and we bought Jesmond Cottage in her memory. The cottage, which is a work in progress, is in the lovely village of Stainton, just off the A66 - 5 minutes from Ullswater, and 20 minutes from Keswick. We are currently in the middle of our first set of improvements including the installing of environmentally-friendly central heating, double glazing, and a new bathroom and kitchen. By April 2019 the work will be complete, and we look forward to welcoming visitors to our dream cottage - so please do have a look, and maybe book a visit to Jesmond Cottage!

Enjoyed an Autumnal walk along the river from Stainton towards Sockbridge. We then followed the Eamont Way to Pooley Bridge. We enjoyed coffee and cake before coming back via the Dalemain loop walk, which was much shorter!

And finally Great Gable with 4 other Wainwrights along the way. We parked in Seathwaite and started by walking up by the side of Sourmilk Ghyll. On the way to Great Gable we climbed Base Brown and Green Gable. We came back via Brandreth and Grey Knotts. Another 8 hour day but so well worth the effort!
