Keeper's Cottage is a 250 year old gamekeepers cottage, once part of the 700 year old Brougham Hall Estate, now lovingly restored. We are surrounded by open fields and trees with distant views of the Lake District hills on one side, and the Pennine hills on the other. 20 miles from historic Hadrian's Wall with many fascinating sites of interest, towns within reach of the wall; and
well worth a visit are Carlisle, Corbridge and Hexham. Ideally situated on a quiet country lane, we are only two miles from the market town of Penrith and the M6 motorway, one mile from the nearest pub which serves very good food and is a pleasant walk away, and five miles from Ullswater where you can take a trip on the Steamer from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding. Less than a mile away is historic Brougham Castle, an English Heritage site on the banks of the River Eamont which is well worth a visit. There's lots to do around here including visiting castles, lakes, hill walking, pony trekking, etc. But there is no convenient public transport so a car or bike would be required. If you want to explore our beautiful country lanes and cycle paths. Keeper’s Cottage is on the C2C route so ideal for cyclists or walkers. We will provide a continental or cooked full English breakfast for you, served (in the summer) in our large sunny conservatory surrounded by period furniture and interesting antiques. Everything you need should be in the room, but if you require anything or further guidance, please ask.
