We’re now taking bookings in our award-winning Garden bar and restaurant for Christmas Day! Get your festive plans sorted early, and treat yourself to a special dinner on the big day - all cooked and served by our amazing kitchen crew here at Hotel Penzance Harbour View.

You don’t have to lift a finger; just sort your outfit and make your way here. We’ll look after all the rest and ensure your Christmas Day meal is one to remember. And no washing up!

Here are some top facts about Market Jew Street, as told by the font of everything that’s worth knowing around here:

- The name is the name is a corruption from the Cornish language ‘marghas Yow’, meaning ‘Thursday market’.

- The London Economic recently declared Penzance the best town for indie shopping in the UK, calling it ‘an absolute gem’ that ‘perhaps owing to it’s independent pirate spirit, Penzance’s high street is still standing strong,’ and ‘it seems to be getting better and better.’

- the iconic Market House at the top of the street, with its distinctive dome and columns, was completed in 1838. It’s now community owned and the Penzance Regeneration Company is bringing it back to life and opening next year:

- The statue in front is of Humphry Davy, Penzance’s most famous son. A chemist and inventor of the Davy lamp, he’s also remembered for isolating several elements, such as potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium, for the first time.
