The 2026 theme, βForever Flying High,β celebrates everything that soars above Penzance β from seabirds over Mountβs Bay to the Scilly helicopter, Cornish sky spirits and bold visions of future flight. β¨
Rooted in the revived Feast of St John, Golowan has grown into one of the South Westβs most loved festivals, attracting thousands each year with its vibrant mix of heritage, creativity and joyful street celebration.
During the festival, Penzance comes alive with colourful parades, street theatre, live music, dance, workshops and bustling makersβ markets. The iconic Mazey Day procession takes centre stage, filling the streets with giant sculptures, imaginative costumes and inspiring community creations. Alongside this, the Quay Fair and festival markets showcase local makers, food producers and independent traders.
Golowanβs lively Fringe programme features grassroots arts, spoken word, comedy, exhibitions and intimate gigs. In the evenings, Marquee Nights bring live bands, DJs and performances ranging from traditional Cornish music to contemporary and global sounds.
