Snippets of garden and garden room views, a canter around the courtyard, and was it the last swim for a while? A delicious treat on the way home from the sea - any guesses of the cocktail??

I somehow missed taking any snaps of the wall to wall blue skies yesterday but oh how I powered through drying the B&B linens and towels in the clear clean sea air. I could hear the sea rustling into the beach below with a subtle call to the water as I beetled backwards and forwards to the line through. Maybe today for a swim?!

September! And our day started with blue skies over the garden and scudding clouds across the bay. The dramatic show of autumn has begun!
As I put the washing out, I watched the white sails of a yacht, drifting across the sea, while as the gulls methodically worked their way through cauliflower searching for tasty bugs below the garden.

The last day of summer has arrived to oh so gently ease us into the hinterland of autumn. The rains are refreshing the vibrancy of summertime, yet easing us towards the mellow autumn days ahead. The moon was still lingering over the courtyard as I opened the breakfast rooms ready to lay the tables this morning after the horses had been reluctantly pushed into their pasture to see if maybe the grass has started to grow in the autumnal refresh.

The sunshine finally arrived leaving the wind to whip and jostled the garden yesterday So I took a garden walk with the camera-phone assisted by Samuel Whiskers. The borders and palms are ready for my attention now and did Monty Don say now is the time to trim evergreens?! Well I’ve peered at the parterre and we’ve collected the newly sharpened hedge trimmer is ready to go. So yesterday was what a our plumber would describe as “A coat of looking at” something that always gave me heart. And Sammy? well he spotted some new guests setting out on their garden walk so decided on a second lap of the garden as it balances on the cusp of the seasons.

Our breakfast rooms are cosy this morning, ready for the mellow autumn days ahead The hinterland of balance between summer and autumn that old houses know so well.

This morning’s snaps are of the table scapes that tell the story of our days. The roll of garden twine in the hall that I finally tamed the climbing rose with (it’s probably plotting as we speak!) The breakfast table waiting for our guests; the twinkling candles ready to greet the morning; the selection of carved birds gathered here and there; the bright cheerful sunflowers that bring their yellow joy to the room ..

I can never be accused of minimalism but quietly searching out the layers of furnishings is something that I love doing. And goodness we’re even briefly in fashion at the moment as I flick through the glossy magazines. Our B&B this morning in Cornwall.

Our garden of contradictions has had a great summer skipping between formal English style and Mediterranean charm without missing a beat.
Our garden elf is ready for the bank holiday weekend whatever the weather brings though. He divides his time between lounging on the hot gravel and snuggling within his home. He normally holds court each morning from his chosen chair beside the front door for our guests though. It’s a busy life being a hospitality cat after all with a weather eye for the best spot. This weekend is going to be a chance to be “more cat” with two personas rather like our garden

Yesterday in Cornwall! We suddenly spotted that the skies had cleared and we treated ourselves to a swim just before high tide The sea is at its warmest now towards the end of the summer and not to be missed. Later as I walked across the lawn to retrieve our swimwear, I spotted a massive ice rimmed full moon rising over the garden, before walking up through the courtyard.
