World Bee Day at The Solace 🐝🌼✨
A little reminder from our quiet corner of the Perthshire hills that even the smallest creatures have the biggest jobs.
Tucked away down in our clearing, surrounded by the gentle rustle of the trees and the sound of the water, you can hear a beautiful, steady hum today. It turns out that the wild landscape surrounding the shepherd’s hut isn’t just a peaceful sanctuary for our guests-it’s a five-star luxury resort for Scotland’s native bees! 🌿
Right now, our clearing and banks are alive with colour, and every single wildflower has a buzzing visitor:
💛 Our bright patches of yellow gorse and hardy dandelions are the ultimate early-season fuel stop, providing vital, rich nectar for big, velvety queen bumblebees who have just woken up from their winter hibernation.
💙 The carpet of native bluebells nodding in the woods is a favorite for the striking White-tailed Bumblebee. Did you know that if their tongues can't quite reach the bottom of the deep blue bells, they’ll cleverly bite a tiny hole in the base of the flower to sip the nectar directly?
We love celebrating our local hard workers-both the winged kind and the human kind! We are so lucky to have our wonderful friends,The Growspace Network nearby. Christiane Valluri-Nitsch has been incredibly busy tending to her bee colony, and their very first batch of fresh local honey is actually being spun right now! How exciting is that? Talk about fresh from the hive. 🍯✨
In old Celtic folklore, bees were seen as wise, gentle messengers connected deeply to the land. There was a beautiful tradition called "Telling the Bees," where people would step outside to softly whisper their news, joys, or quiet reflections to the hives.
Next time you are sitting outside the hut, enjoying a morning coffee or listening to the woodland birds, take a moment to listen to the steady, peaceful buzz in the clearing.
To the tiny workers keeping our wild spaces blooming, and our brilliant local keepers-thank you! 💛🐝
