Sitting duck has managed to keep five ducklings safe so far. The geese are certainly having a good breeding season with several pairs rearing their goslings. It looks as if the big group are all off to join the First Steps Nursery by Lake Lodge gates!😄

Sitting duck finally brought her 7 ducklings within camera range. Hope she manages to keep them safe.

Update on our sitting duck! She is now out on the lake with her drake and six to eight ducklings. She is very protective and keeping them away and safe so cannot get a photo. However lots of other wildlife on and in the lake. One pair of geese hatched out three goslings but they have gradually disappeared, no doubt taken by the otters. On a brighter note the lake is so clear we can see the tadpoles swimming round.

This mallard duck has three ducklings and another has two but our sitting duck is still sitting!!

Update on the sitting duck! When she is off the nest she covers the eggs with her own duvet of duck down to keep them warm - not sure what tog rating it is but it does the trick! It also hides them from predators as it is so well camouflaged.
So much wildlife about. Apart from the mallards we have seen swans, egrets, herons, Canada and Greylag geese, tufted docks, cormorants, buzzards, jackdaws, rooks, robins, magpies, blackbirds , a wren, a buzzard, and pigeons. Merlin app has also picked up a coal tit, blackcap, chiffchaff, song thrush, gold crest and an oyster catcher!

Spring is in the air at Lake Lodge. A pair of Mallard ducks have returned to nest in the courtyard herb garden and have laid nine eggs so far. Behind the house the blossom is out and daffodils are popping up everywhere.
