We have had a couple of improvements at the cottage, a nice new sofa … and some lovely panelling in the bathroom , a perfect staycation ❤️

The Quiet Hands of Remembrance

We wear the poppy for the fallen,
For names carved deep in stone —
For those who marched to distant fields,
And never made it home.

We bow our heads for grieving hearts,
Who watched the trains depart —
The sweethearts left with telegrams,
And silence in the heart.

We honour too the factory walls,
Where danger hid unseen —
The fire flashed, the dust blew out,
War reaching the home front keen.

Remember those who stayed behind,
Who kept the nation strong —
A courage lived in daily tasks,
A quiet, steady song.

And think of those whose work began
When others’ lives were through —
Undertakers wearing dignity,
With hands both kind and true.

They carried soldiers one last time,
Through streets of tear-lined stone —
Ensuring every life that fell
Was honoured, known, and home.

So let the bugle call the peace,
Let silence fill the air —
For every soul who stood for us,
Let us today stand there.

Their stories rest in poppy fields,
In memories kept alive —
For freedom is a fragile gift,
Because they dared to strive.
