I don’t often do this as I don’t feel the need to but this review is something else

I don't like smelly B&B's
Me and my wife don't usually stay in B&B's. I grew up on a council estate in the 1960's and that meant holidays involved a three hour trip to Southsea to stay in a B&B. The smell of the dirty breakfast fat (usually lard) impregnating every pore of the building, and then my clothes, scarred me for life. I haven't been to a B&B in my adult life.
My wife noticed a review in The Times for Cawthorne House, it read really well so we took the plunge (after 40 years) and decided to give it a go. We love the area so we optimistically booked three nights. A risky strategy.
We drove the 120 miles to Pickering and were met at the door by the charming Pascal. I can say charming because he turned out to be, just that. Oh my, on entering the house, it did indeed smell but my goodness, the smell was divine, the deep smell of fresh bread and the sweet smell of cookies freshly cooked. We'd gotten off to a fantastic start. I was even a bit excited, could my phobia have been instantly cured?
Well the short answer is yes. This is a wonderful family, running a family business, doing it with love and passion. It turns out, if you look into the DNA of Pascal, he's got food running through his veins, he's the son of a fabulous notorious Yorkshire based chef and has all the qualities of someone who has lived in a "service" establishment all his life. He's simply lovely. But wait, wait until he serves you breakfast.......
My goodness. Cooking a proper English breakfast to a standard that the king would approve, in my opinion, is difficult. Not for Pascal. Great fresh produce, beautifully cooked and beautifully served with a fine dose of humour to set you up for the day. Apparently, his kids selected the choice of sausage after a blind testing session...my, those kids know what they are doing.
My advice is to pay this place a visit. The vibe is great. The family is adorable, the price is correct, the location is perfect for day trips out. My only complaint is that Pascal hasn't ventured into the lunch or dinner offering.....we would have never moved out.
Finally, and I'm not kidding. His scrambled egg will change your life and you'll ask yourself why you hadn't thought of it yourself. If only for the scrambled eggs you have to try this place!
A brilliant stay, we'll be back as soon as and ....it smells great. 10/10
