8 months this week since this all started after the road was resurfaced! And we are still no further forwards; “temporary traffic lights” causing mayhem and barriers surrounding the big hole that was dug 6 months ago, ongoing trade badly affected.

The bar is now open every day of the week now we are heading into summer! From 4pm Monday to Friday, 12 noon on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday. See you all soon!

Given that we’re still unable to provide a full food service due to the ongoing issue outside the building, we thought it might be nice to have some sharing plates available, at least on a Friday and Saturday evening - so from 6pm today feel free to order a charcuterie or cheese board!

➡️ We’re very excited to welcome the wonderful Anne Gair to Pickering where she’ll play at The Black Swan. The show will be opened with a couple of songs from special guest Carrie Martin.

✨ Anne is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and dulcimer player from Scotland who is a rising star on the acoustic music scene with “a voice that just soothes your soul” (Rambling Folk).

🎵 She has toured throughout the UK and abroad both as a solo artist and with her ensemble, The Anne Gair Band, performing Joni Mitchell covers as well as her own original material. We’re delighted that she is visiting us during the tour for her gorgeous debut album of original songs, which was chosen as Album of the Week on Celtic Music Radio in November 2025 and went on to be nominated for Album of the Year.

⭐️ Anne’s music is a heady mix of genres with nods to indie folk, country americana, blues and jazz, with strong vocal melody lines and a penchant for harmony and open tunings. Her contributions to new music make her an up-and-coming artist being touted as ‘One of Scotland’s most promising songwriters’.

New to the bar this week are two favourites from the ever popular Wold Top Brewery! Watch this space for other beers from them coming up in the next few weeks
Even better is that they’re both gluten free, so even more choice for those of you with gluten intolerance or coeliac disease!

Seeing as we're not doing food services at the moment due to the ongoing issues at the front of the building, we thought we'd make the dining area into a comfy space for a quiet drink or two.....phase one complete, watch this space as we continue to improve the comfort!
