Recently, Saorsa 1875 had the privilege of visiting Sam at his vineyard in Sussex. We first met Sam, the winemaker at Titch Hill, last year and tasted a few of his wines, which blew us away. They were all precise, individual and nuanced - an excellent expression of terroir and character. We had to get them onto the list at Saorsa 1875.

Since then, they've quickly become some of our favourite wines to pour, so we decided to take a trip down to see Sam's work amongst the vines and in the cellar. Sam, somewhat of a nomad, travelling around Europe learning his craft, joined his friend Alex to look after 3.5 hectares of vines growing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, planted in 2019. A further 4 hectares have since been planted using PIWI vines, which are more resistant to rot and mildew, allowing the pair to focus on what they truly love: soil health, biodiversity, and a holistic approach to winemaking.

There's a true sense of place at Titch Hill - Sam is a winemaker who embodies the spirit of natural wine, believing in sustainable agriculture and letting the terroir speak. Book in for dinner or stop by our bar to enjoy a bottle from Titch Hill | https://bit.ly/3Ws5N4P
