Gooseberry Field Campsite is a glamping holiday business based in Pluckley in the heart of Kent. It is owned and run by John and Kerstin, two aging post punk hippies who last year managed to finally escape from a hectic lifestyle in the City to a simpler, more relaxed way of living, with chickens, farmland and open fires. "When we lived in London we found it difficult to find places close to the c
ity, that we could escape too. Places where we could relax with a bottle of wine, an open camp fire and a guitar, to watch the sun go down in the evenings. "
This is where the idea started to open up our own glamping site, providing the things we were looking for at a fair price and close enough to town to avoid hours in a car stuck in traffic jams. Surrounded by rolling hills, quaint villages and woodlands of Kent, Gooseberry Field Campsite is the perfect spot for a weekend or mid-week break, only 39 minutes by train from St Pancras or an one hour drive from central London. The campsite is a five acre smallholding on the edge of the haunted village of Pluckley and it used to be an ancient Kent apple orchard. Most of the original apple trees are gone but we have begun the process of replanting and reorganising the land, with fruit trees, fruit bushes, wild flower meadows, a vegetable garden, and chickens. Next year we hope to add a few sheep to help keep the mowing down.
