I just found a nest of Peacock Butterfly caterpillars on their favourite food plant - yet another reason to love the humble stinging nettle. These little guys will emerge as beautiful butterfly’s, hibernate over the winter and awaken in spring/summer next year. They can live up to 11 months!!

Retirement announcement!

We've made the decision to retire our old Land Rover. She's been a valuable member of the team for many years but the time has come for her to hang up her boots and head out to pasture.

She failed to pass her latest MOT and requires a fair bit of work to get back on the road. Full report online.

It's a 1986 Land Rover 90. The engine and gearbox (R380) have been upgraded to a genuine 2.5L Defender 300TDI. The head gasket was done in summer 2026. Mileage c.223k

If anyone's interested in giving her a new home get in touch

Some like it hot! It might be a little too warm for some of us humans but the wildlife sure seems to love it. May & June's wildlife board was a busy one, the bee hotel 🐝 is filling up nicely there have been plenty of sightings around site. From buzzards 🦅 to butterflies 🦋, frogs 🐸 to hornet mimic hoverflies 🪰 - the valley seems alive at the moment. The bees are buzzing and we have a fresh batch of Churchwood Valley honey 🍯 on sale in the shop and office. It's not too late to book one of the last few remaining cabins for a summer break... ☀️

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved dad and husband John Stansell, who died of a stroke in Derriford hospital on Thursday the 2nd of July, surrounded by his family.

John was known and loved by many for his friendliness and big booming laugh, and he made friends easily, wherever he went. He loved Churchwood Valley and really enjoyed running the park, we are really glad he spent his last years surrounded by great people in this beautiful place.

We will hold a small family funeral, and then a larger memorial service sometime in August so that all who knew and loved John can join together and celebrate the life of this lovely man. We will make public the details of this as soon as we have made the arrangements and anyone who wishes to join us will be welcome.

Thanks to everyone for your messages of love and support, each and every one means so much to us.

Shirley, Amy, Tom, Polly and the rest of the family.

It's another splendid day in the valley☀️ and there are few places nicer than down in Stream Field. We've recently opened-up a small slice of paradise to our guests and we think you'll like it. It's a lovely place to unwind and relax amongst beautiful surroundings. Accessed via the steps leading down to Wembury Wild Sauna it's the perfect spot for bird watching🦆, a peaceful G&T🍹or a few chapters of your book📖. If you have a dog🐕 we're sure they'll love to cool down their paws in the stream. Why not pop in when next you wander past...
