Buzzard is our biggest yurt. It sleeps five, which makes it the one families usually ask about first. Like everywhere on site, you get the two kitchens, the wet rooms and the Coffee Room a short walk away.

Just outside Looe, Kilminorth Woods runs along the West Looe River. It's ancient sessile oak woodland, a nature reserve, and the sort of place where you might see herons on the water or, if you're lucky, a kingfisher. A good flat-ish wander from the Millpool car park in West Looe.

Looe is our nearest town: a working fishing harbour, two halves joined by a bridge, beach on the east side, boats coming and going most days. Fish and chips by the water in the autumn, with the crowds gone, takes some beating.

You don't have to leave the farm to fill a day. There's a wildlife pond to sit by, a herb garden, football golf if anyone needs to run something off, and two fully equipped kitchens for a long, unhurried dinner. Looe is close by when you do want the sea.

The sun's setting earlier now, which suits the Stargazer Shepherd's Hut. It sleeps two to three, sits on the hillside with the rest of the site, and once the light's gone there's not much to do except look up. Bring a warm layer and a torch.

Everything here runs on solar power, from a dedicated field that supplies the site and the neighbouring farm. The water comes from a natural spring. We don't make a big thing of it. It's just how West Kellow works, and it's been that way a long while.

Eight places to stay, one Cornish hillside near Looe. Three yurts (Buzzard sleeps five, Barn Owl four, Skylark two), the Stargazer Shepherd's Hut for three, a smaller Shepherd's Hut for two, the Blue Jay Wagon, the Wood Cabin and a Bell Tent for up to four. Whichever you choose, you share the same two kitchens, the wet rooms and the Coffee Room.

The Coffee Room's open whenever you want it. Covered, open-sided, at the edge of the field, with comfortable seating, a long pine table and an arts and crafts corner. It's free for everyone staying with us. Now the evenings are drawing in, it's a good place to sit with a hot drink and watch the light go over the fields.

Lantic Bay. If you only do one beach walk while you're with us, make it this one.

It's a National Trust cove tucked under Pencarrow Head, between Polruan and Polperro, about 45 minutes from the yurts by road. No road down, no shop, no cafe, no lifeguards. You park at the top (PL23 1LX, pay and display, free for NT members), walk across the fields for 15 to 20 minutes, then drop down a steep zig-zag path to the sand and shingle. On a calm day the water is properly turquoise.

Fair warning: the climb back up is a workout in this heat, so take plenty to drink. And treat the sea as unpatrolled. It shelves quickly and rips are possible in any swell, so only go in when it's settled and keep a close eye on the kids.

Not keen on the descent? The coast path runs right across the top of the bay and the views from Pencarrow Head are some of the best on this stretch. Dogs welcome all year. Not one for pushchairs though.
