Our Story
The Whirlies offers a spacious private separate suite comprising two double bedrooms, a central lounge area and a large bathroom with bath, WC, sink and thermostatic shower. The suite is well-suited to a group of four, either four adults or two adults and two children. One bedroom is offered either with two single 3 foot beds or joined as a 6 foot superking bed.
There are spacious gardens surrounding the property and off road parking for several cars. All rooms are offered inclusive of a cooked breakfast.
The Whirlies was formerly known as Sunnybank and is an imposing Victorian property built around 1860, a few years before the mines at Abersychan were opened. It has been occupied by Alderman John Daniel, a local philanthropist, and Cyril Sullivan, a Director of the Blaenavon Company which ran the ironworks. In later years it was a Doctor's surgery.
It had substantial grounds, orchards, and stables and was surrounded by stone walls with a magnificent entry. Over the years, some of the land has been sold off, but she still retains delightful views over the valley. We have removed several elderly pine trees that blocked the view and which has also allowed us to extend the car parking area.
