Englishman Allan Hughes was one of the last independent Victorian ship owners. He established the Federal Steam Navigation Company, took over the New Zealand Shipping Company, and built both into dominant forces in the meat trade with Australia and New Zealand — among the first to introduce refrigeration into ships’ holds. His companies were eventually absorbed by P&O.
He was also a keen squash player.
So when he built his family home, Bossington Hall, in the Exmoor National Park in England in 1911 he included a squash court in a separate building.
The Hall is now a Bed &Breakfast, but what may be the oldest private court in England is still in use today by guests. What also makes it very unusual is that it features maple wood walls, (and still has the original light fittings).

Hmm. Window maintenance is a bit of a forth bridge job here. The whole bottom inch is just rotten , 😭 so letting in a new bit, seal, paint....
