Ineraval Farmhouse Ineraval is a two storey, 2-bedroom farmhouse situated at the tranquil heart of The Oa peninsula, 5 miles from the village of Port Ellen.

Ineraval Farmhouse is situated in a remote and beautiful part of the Oa peninsula. Starting from the village of Port Ellen, you take the Oa Road (single track) for four miles. You then follow a further 1.8 miles of farm track. It takes a little effort, but few who make the journey doubt that it is worth it! The farmhouse has been renovated and finished to a high standard. Upstairs it has two bedro

oms (one double and one twin) and a shower room. At the back of the house downstairs it has a well-equipped modern kitchen, (with electric cooker, dish-washer, washing-machine and micro-wave oven); a large bathroom (with bath and separate shower cubicle); a handy utility area for coats and boots etc inside the back door. At the front it has a small porch at the front door, opening into the light and airy open plan living and dining areas, which are separated by a feature wooden staircase leading to the first floor. The living area has a wood-burning stove and satellite television as well as some books and games. The house has spectacular views towards the Mull of Kintyre and the Antrim Coast. It is decorated with original artwork by Mina Carmichael and other Islay artists. There is electric heating throughout the house. After a day out walking the hills, exploring the beaches or fishing the lochs you can settle down in front of an open fire and enjoy one of the famous Islay single malt whiskies. For a combination of peace and comfort you will not find anywhere like it. There is ample parking and a handy shed for storage of bikes and equipment, with a table tennis table. A small welcome pack of grocery essentials is provided on your arrival as is some firewood (or peat if available) for the stove. Bed linen and towels are included. Our usual let is Saturday to Saturday. Well-behaved dogs are welcome although for this an extra deposit is required.

This makes me feel a lot better about our inability to keep everything around the farm and the house neat and tidy! Letting the nettles flourish also means that we can leave the dockens alone.

My father told me once that they also help cattle to stay clear of staggers (a condition coming from magnesium deficiency). I expect it is true but the interweb is silent on the subject.

Adult butterflies love sipping nectar from a variety of blooms, but another way to help butterflies is to provide the right food for their caterpillars (larvae).

Most caterpillars are picky eaters and will only munch on one or a few specific types of plants. Many of these are native species considered to be 'weeds' - like the stinging nettle, which is the foodplant (or 'host' plant) for comma, small tortoiseshell, red admiral and peacock butterflies 🐛🌿

We have availability!

Following a cancellation from 23 August to 6 September we now have two prime Ineraval weeks available. Ineraval books well in advance and we rarely have any free weeks from April through to October by the time season starts.

So if you fancy a short notice dose of your Ineraval fix, this is your chance! Don’t hang around. I already have one expression of interest (not yet a confirmed booking) for the second week.

We were recently gifted a bottle of the Calvados finished Kilchoman Distillery. Always been a fan but this took it to the next level.

If you are staying in The Oa then a visit to Kilchoman is a little bit of a trek but worth it. We generally head out late morning so we can have lunch in their cafe, a browse in the shop and usually leave with a bottle or two. It is a different sort of landscape to the Oa so worth the effort for a lot of reasons!

Good news earlier risers!

From Monday the shop will be open from 0600 Monday to Saturday for the rest of April.
Teas, coffees, and prefilled cold rolls will be available.

This is a trial to see if its worthwhile doing it going forward and if Frazer is capable of getting up at that time regularly 🤣
