Spring on the doorstep 🌸
With the changing season comes a wave of wonderful new arrivals around the cottage, a true treat for wildlife lovers!
🌼 Dark Green Fritillary - a stunning butterfly that can be found nearby from June onwards
🌼 Whinchat - similar to a stonechat, this rare migrant is a real treat to spot on the fences around the cottage
🌼 Cuckoo - an emblem of the spring & summer. We are lucky enough to have calling cuckoos around the cottage regularly
🌼 Calves - there are lots of gorgeous calves on the Mull of Oa, including some fluffy highland cow calves on the RSPB Monument trail
🌼 Willow Warbler - a beautiful little songbird, with its song easily distinguishing it from the similar looking Chiffchaff
🌼 Marsh Fritillary - this rare butterfly can be found on the Mull of Oa for those with an eagle eye! Keep a lookout on the heather peatlands in May/June time
🌼 Wheatear - a striking migrant which can be found sitting on the fences and walls around the cottage. Males showing off their beautiful blue-grey backs
🌼 Lambs - cute little lambs can be found across the Mull of Oa, chasing each other in the fields
🌼 Grasshopper Warbler - you’ll often hear this warbler before you see it, with it’s distinctive grasshopper-like reeling call
🌼 Sedge Warbler - a loud and proud warbler, often found calling from the top of bushes
