The perfect Islay wildlife base 🧡
Whether you’re a birdwatcher, wildlife lover or just enjoy being around nature, Lenavore Cottage is the perfect place to stay!
Surrounded by the RSPB Mull of Oa nature reserve, there is plenty to see ☺️
✨ Roe Deer - often spotted around the cottage and by the roadside, although a little shy here on Islay
✨ Golden Eagle - the Mull of Oa is an amazing place to spot this majestic birds, with them frequently seen from the Monument trail, as well as soaring over the cottage
✨ Stonechat - a gorgeous little bird regularly spotted directly around the cottage. You’ll hear them chatting away on the fences and see them catching inspects
✨ Brown Hare - these beautiful golden mammals are often spotted hopping around in the fields or on the roadside, with great numbers on the Oa
✨ Barn Owl - it’s always a real treat to see a barn owl around Lenavore. So keep an eye out around dawn and dusk, or listen for the screeches on an evening too
✨ White-Tailed Eagle - these mighty birds are unmissable when they are around, so listen for the alarm calls of other birds nearby! Nothing beats seeing one of these up close
✨ Hen Harrier - Islay is a real stronghold for these rare raptors, and we are lucky enough to see them gliding around the moorland. Both the ghostly males and the ring-tailed females
✨ Red Deer - By far the most populous deer on the Mull of Oa, and around the cottage. You can see the mighty stags and their hinds all around, particularly around dawn and dusk
✨ Buzzard - A stunning raptor which you hear ‘mewing’ in the sky. A frequent visitor, which you might spot sitting on the fence posts
