I visited Portmeirion this week and honestly… it’s one of the most beautiful, slightly surreal places I’ve ever been.

The buildings are absolutely stunning – colourful, intricate, and unlike anywhere else in the UK. At times it almost feels a bit too perfect, like you’re walking around a film set… a little bit plastic, but in a way that somehow adds to the charm rather than taking away from it.

This time, I chose not to take my children, and I’m really glad I didn’t. It gave me the chance to properly slow down, wander, and just take it all in. There’s a real sense of calm and peace there that I think is best appreciated without distractions.

We spent around 3–4 hours exploring, which felt just right. One of my favourite moments was just standing still, watching the sunshine hit the sea – it was sparkling like glitter. Properly magical.

A couple of practical bits – it was £20 per adult (there are family deals and under 5s go free), and if you’re planning to eat, I’d definitely recommend pre-booking restaurants. There are a few takeaway options if you don’t want to plan ahead, though.

I remember coming here as a 15-year-old and not understanding at all why anyone would pay to walk around a village… but coming back at 40, I completely get it. It’s not just about what you see, it’s about how it makes you feel. Peaceful, reflective, and just a little bit in awe of the beauty around you. 💛
