Things We’d Tell a Friend Visiting Skye: Book dinner before you’re hungry. 🍴

After a full day exploring, it’s tempting to head back to Portree and decide where to eat once you get there.

HOWEVER, Portree’s restaurants can fill up fast, with tables often reserved well in advance. If there’s somewhere on your list, book ahead rather than leaving dinner to chance.

Why do we have a Spa Zone rather than a traditional spa?

We wanted to give guests somewhere to warm up and relax during their stay. There are sauna pods and a relaxation area, and people tend to use them at different points in the day. 🩱 It might be after coming back wet from a walk, after spending hours in the car exploring Skye, or before getting ready to head out for dinner.

That’s it really. A small part of the hotel that’s there when you want a bit of downtime.

The Skye weather rule: if you can see blue sky from your bedroom window, don’t spend 45 minutes discussing where to go. Go!

Weather on Skye can change remarkably quickly (especially going into autumn), and what looks like a clear morning in Portree doesn’t necessarily tell you what you’ll find elsewhere on the island an hour later.

So our advice? Have a rough idea of the places you’d like to see, keep an eye on the forecast, but be prepared to change your plans. 🗺️

Things we’d tell a friend visiting Skye: Don’t plan every minute of your trip.

It’s tempting to arrive on Skye with every day mapped out, particularly when there’s so much you want to see. But leave a few gaps. 🗺️

The weather changes. You spot somewhere from the road and decide to stop. A view appears that wasn’t on your list. Someone at breakfast tells you about somewhere they went the day before and suddenly your plans change.

Have a list of the places you really want to see, of course. Just leave a little room for the things you didn’t know about before you got here.
