Scottish Food & Drink September is back. 🍴 This year’s theme is ‘Every Bite Tells a Story’, and being here on Skye gives us plenty of food stories to tell.

Over the next month, we’ll be sharing some of the food served at Marmalade and the Scottish produce that makes its way onto our menus.

Have you ever wondered why the Marmalade Hotel is called Marmalade Hotel? 🍊

The name comes from the original, older part of the building, which dates back to 1806–1810 when it was built as a grand Georgian country house known as Portree House.

But the sweet name has another story behind it. The house was once surrounded by orange trees in its gardens - quite a sight in the Scottish Highlands!

And that unexpected splash of citrus is what inspired the name Marmalade.💛

“How close are you to Portree?”

It’s one of the questions we’re asked a lot!

The centre of Portree is around a 5 to 10 minute walk from Marmalade, so you can leave the car at the hotel and head down on foot for the harbour, shops, cafĂŠs, restaurants or an evening out.

And from up here, you can see just how close it all is.

Today, Chris, General Manager of our Skye hotels, visited Portree Nursery to present a donation from the Perle Hotels team, which will help towards developing the children’s outdoor areas.

Radio Skye joined us for the visit and spoke to both Chris and the nursery manager about the donation, so keep an ear out for their interview airing soon.

Thank you to everyone for being so welcoming 😊

Hotel guest lounges can sometimes be spaces that look lovely, but don’t actually get used all that much. But, we’d like to think ours is a little different.

One of the things we love about the guest lounge at Marmalade is seeing people genuinely make themselves at home here. It gives you somewhere to go when you don’t quite fancy retreating to your room yet, whether that’s sitting with a coffee, having a drink, reading for a while or just enjoying a more sociable space after a day out on Skye.

We’re treating ourselves to a little time out for 🧘‍♀️

Did you know that our hotel has a garden wellness area with wood-fired outdoor sauna pods and a peaceful indoor relaxation room?

It’s always interesting to see what guests remember most after a meal.

Looking through recent reviews of Chargrill Restaurant, a few themes kept appearing ...

🥩The steaks live up to the restaurant’s name, with the Ribeye, fillet and Chateaubriand getting regular mentions.

🦞 The seafood is just as highly rated, with guests frequently praising the scallops, mussels and fresh local fish.

📅 One tip also comes up time and time again, if you’re planning to dine during Skye’s busier months, it’s worth reserving your table in advance.

A fun fact about Skye's Old Man of Storr ...

It shows up in one of the early scenes of the movie Prometheus (2012), directed by Ridley Scott. It's featured when archaeologists Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway make an important archaeological discovery beneath the distinctive rock formation.

Do you remember the scene? 🎬
