⚠️ Visitor Notice

We are happy to announce that the temporary Advice Against Bathing at Portstewart Strand has now been lifted.

It comes after Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) bathing waters team confirmed testing returned within normal limits.

Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) has now opened an investigation into the water pollution incident that was first reported on Tuesday 2 June.

We would like quickly to thank the teams from DAERA, NIEA, and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for their assistance yesterday. And thank you for your understanding and patience. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful beach soon.

As always, if visiting Portstewart Strand with a dog, please keep them under control and on the lead up to Post 10.

☀️ Bank holiday weekend

We're looking forward to a warm and sunny bank holiday weekend - and where better to enjoy it than Portstewart Strand!

Our countryside team has been hard at work these past few days carrying out restoration works at the entrance to the beach in anticipation of a busy weekend.

As we're expecting a large volume of cars, we advise visitors to anticipate slow traffic at times - particularly around high tide.

Where possible, we ask that you consider seeking alternative parking and travelling to the beach on foot.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful beach!

🌳 Nature=Future

Nature can’t “wait a wee minute.” Today, Northern Ireland is one of the most nature-depleted places in the world.

Nature is essential to all of our lives. It’s the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat. It protects our communities from flooding and extreme heat, supports our health and wellbeing, and brings beauty and connection to our everyday lives.

It is not a nice-to-have. And it is not a blocker to growth.

Yet nature is in freefall. Wildlife continues to decline, water quality is failing, and too many people are increasingly cut off from the natural spaces that help communities thrive.

That’s why today we are launching a Nature=Future e-action, a campaign calling on the NI Government to act now to:
🌱 Restore nature
🦋 Protect and invest in wildlife
🏡 Build resilient futures for communities

We’re asking people across Northern Ireland to contact their MLAs and demand action. Please visit the link below to show your support: https://campaigns.nationaltrust.org.uk/page/190930/action/1?ea.tracking.id=NI_Faceboook

It takes less than two minutes to add your voice.

⚠️ Visitor Notice

As part of the CMAP project, Ulster University will begin coastal monitoring surveys using a quad-mounted GNSS rover at Portstewart Strand tomorrow (Friday 15 May).

You may see an ATV on the beach, so visitors are advised to please keep a safe distance and follow staff guidance.

The survey is part of a wider study across 15 coastal sites, including in Co Antrim, Co Down, Co Donegal, Co Louth, and Co Sligo.

Please visit the link in the comments below to find out more about the project.

🗑️ Leave no trace

Good memories belong at the beach. Your rubbish doesn’t...

The summer season is here, and we know there’s no better place to celebrate than the dunes and beach at Portstewart Strand.

But if you’re heading here with friends over the coming days and weeks, please remember to leave no trace behind.

Every year, our team of rangers and volunteers care for this special landscape and the wildlife that calls it home.

Sadly, in recent weeks, they've had to dedicate more of their time to litter picking, taking valuable time away from conservation work and putting fragile habitats and dunes at risk.

So, if you’re packing snacks, drinks, speakers or picnic gear, make sure it all goes home with you too.

Enjoy the beach. Respect the landscape. Leave it as good as you found it.
