Our Story

The Lodge at Bainesbury House is a delightful rural bolthole nestled in the Mendip Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, within the Somerset countryside. On the doorstep of Downside Abbey (Grade I listed) and School, The Lodge is ideally located to explore a wealth of attractions including the beautiful city of Wells, Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar Gorge, Clarks Village, Wookey Hole Caves, Stourhead House & Gardens, Stonehenge and Longleat Safari Park. We’re also a short drive from the internationally famous Glastonbury Festival.

The Lodge is just 25 minutes by car to the centre of Bath, a World Heritage city, where you can visit the Roman Baths, dine in the Royal Crescent, enjoy the abbey, or explore the array of shops, cafes, galleries, museums and restaurants.

Nearby, the Royal Bath and West Showground provides regular events including antique and craft fairs and the Royal Bath and West Show, which takes place at the end of May. Alternatively, you can take a steam train trip on the local East Somerset Railway, which operates from March through to October.
