Dear Nethercourt Family

After more than two decades at the campsite, we’ve decided it’s time for us to step back and close this chapter. It’s been an incredible journey and hard to put into words just how much the campsite and all of you have meant to us.

Over the years, the campsite has been the backdrop to so many incredible moments. Honeymoons celebrated, pregnancies discovered, waters have broken, and children have taken their very first steps here. We’ve watched little ones learn to ride their bikes, grow up, and eventually return with children of their own. It’s been a privilege to witness these milestones.

We’ve shared unforgettable celebrations, fancy dress parties, endless pool nights and game playing, seen magic tricks and amazing talents from art to unicycle riding, shared international feasts and celebrations that brought people together from all over the world sharing their local dishes from Cumbrian sausages, Yorkshire puds and roast beef, French ratatouille and crepes, curries, chillis, German potato salad, endless sweet treats, and more varieties of alcohol than we could ever list. The stories and laughter from those nights will stay with us forever.
We’ve loved watching kids’ faces light up when we told them the campsite lights were the airport landing lights. We’ve enjoyed watching the Red Arrows streak across the sky. We’ve enjoyed the wildlife: mischievous foxes stealing shoes, the albino squirrel, parakeets nibbling sunflower seeds, speedy the hedgehog and his friends hibernating behind the gaming machines, and of course the Nethercourt roses became a landmark of their own.

Most importantly, we’ve met so many wonderful people and made lifelong friends. This campsite has never just been a business or just a piece of grass to us it’s been a community, a family, and a place full of stories we’ll cherish forever.

As we move on, we hope to enjoy a few weekends off… and who knows, maybe we’ll come and visit some of you instead.

Have you ever dreamed of turning your hobby into a money-making venture? Maybe you’re already selling your creations and want to take things to the next level. If so, the Broadstairs Teenage Market could be your perfect opportunity.

The Teenage Market is a pop-up market just for young people aged 8 to 24 years of age, where you can sell your own products, test out business ideas, and show off your creativity to the public. Whether you’re into art, fashion, jewellery, candles, prints, photography, upcycled pieces, crafts, or something totally original — this is for you.

The event will take place inside the Broadstairs Pavilion , during Dickens weekend, which attracts lots of visitors to the town. You will be trading alongside other talented young people who are all giving it a go.

Monkton Open Garden Event 2026

Raising funds for The Village Hall and church in Monkton

11am - 5pm

10+ gardens plus the church will be open for displays and light refreshments then Songs of Praise on Sunday at 6pm.

Gardens will have... craft & bric a brac, compost display with a wormery and information.

Refreshments, lunches and teas in Village Hall plus stalls and raffle.

Reduced entry price at Monkton Nature Reserve with a valid Garden map.

Monkton Open Gardens has been running bi-annually since 1992 - This will be the 17th time the residents of Monkton have opened their gardens to the public.

The Broadstairs Dickens Festival celebrates the works and characters created by one of England's best-loved authors, with events throughout the town. 2026 sees the festival celebrates its 89th year

Charles Dickens visited Broadstairs in Kent regularly from 1837 until 1859 and immortalised the town as "Our English Watering Place".

In 1937, to commemorate the centenary of the author's first visit, Gladys Waterer, the then resident of Dickens House, conceived the idea of putting on a production of David Copperfield and of having people about the town in Victorian dress to publicise it. Thus the Broadstairs Dickens Festival was born and, with the exception of the years of World War 2, has been held annually in the third week of June ever since.

Follow in Charles Dickens' footsteps by coming to Broadstairs. Savour the delights of the town which he described as “the freshest, freest place."

Today -The Great Bucket & Spade Run 2026

Come along to the 43rd year of this popular family event in Ramsgate

10am - 5pm

The Great Bucket & Spade Run will start at Herne Garden Centre, cars leaving between 8am-10am and then follow a country route of about 35 miles, all around the outskirts of Canterbury, arriving at Government Acre Ramsgate around 10am.

Previous years Great Bucket & Spade Runs have been a huge success with over 350 cars participating. This year is set to be as successful with plenty of food & drink stalls, bric a brac and children's rides.

Broadstairs Folk Week 7-14th August 2026
Broadstairs has a habit of entrancing people and before they know it – they’ve bought a house or flat and suddenly they live by the coast in a town that retains a timeless charm unmatched by most other seaside towns today.

If that’s a bit too extreme, Folk Week is a great time to visit the town – described by Charles Dickens as his “favourite watering place”. He might have a bit of a shock if he saw Broadstairs during the festival – it isn’t a quiet time to visit but you couldn’t find a more amenable spot to enjoy the non-stop action that Folk Week offers.
