*Just a little update from Martin and the team at The Hendrewen Hotel*
We are currently at the pre planning stage for the redevelopment of the pub - and part of the planning process will be consultation with all interested parties. You may have noticed that some preliminary preparations have recently commenced, and we are delighted to say that the rip-out phase is being carried out using local teenagers and teenagers from a special needs school, who are doing a fantastic job, learning new skills and adding to their work and life experience.
We are keen to make everyone aware that opinions on all aspects of the plans, including the proposed new car parking area, will naturally be taken into consideration. This is a statutory part of the planning process.
As with everything we do, our aim is to work with the community, not against it.
So just to clear up any speculation, we have been speaking to planners with the view to creating a new environmentally appealing car park on the ground to the right hand side of the hotel. This is primarily to alleviate any possible future parking issues if the Hendrewen becomes very popular. It is also a concern for highways that might stop the full redevelopment of the pub if we don’t offer a possible solution.
In terms of how that might look, for a start there will be one small entrance in the middle requiring a dropped kerb. The rest of the road will remaining open for parking as it currently is. We plan to put in a wooden green ‘living bank’ as the retaining wall at the back, with flowering hanging plants and shrubs, plus the re-planting of cherry and other trees at the top. With consultation, we will be sensitively re-siting the memorial benches closer to the pavements on special tended grass areas. The car park surface itself will either be green or brown or even have grass in it.
We plan to use the new area not only as a car park, but also for outdoor community events, including a Saturday craft and farmers market, a Christmas market and any other fetes or events the community suggests.
We will be putting in EV charging points and a free electric supply for stalls.
All in all, we believe it will be an enhancement and a useful resource for the village, but of course want to hear and welcome all viewpoints. There will be an opportunity to do this when the full planning application is submitted.
This summer looks to be an exciting phase where work continues with the renovations.
We look forward to keeping you updated as the project moves forward 😊
