Fremington Friday! We are back on it. It was nice to be walking up a hill with a nice cool breeze. Following the rain this week the hillside was looking lush and green.

We had a lovely time on holiday in Kent but after a week back at work that is now a very distant memory. We need to get something booked for September so we have something to look forward to. We may try the Scottish Highlands for a change.

This weekend will be my first full weekend at home for several weeks and it looks like the time will be spent doing outdoor housework as the garden has gone nuts.
Last weekend I have the rhubarb a good stripping as it was looking in a sorry state and I think it has done it the world of good as it is back to looking all perky.

The dogs are doing well and enjoying their daily river exercise. Ginger Fella is at the vets in two weeks time for his annual check up and it will be nice to have an update on his back leg and how the recovery is going. Generally he looks to be walking OK, but there are the odd moments when I am not so sure.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend. If you are doing anything exciting (or anything better than gardening), please let us know.

We have been quiet recently as we were on holiday. We have been in a very hot Kent for a week.
We headed there as I was taking part in the annual LDWA 100-mile walk starting at 10am on the Saturday morning. The walk changes location each year and this year it was the Hunnypot 100 to celebrate 100 years of Winnie the Pooh.

I was finisher number 176. Due to the heat there was a significant number of retirees. The starting field was 471 and there were 262 retirements.

As is now tradition, I met up with my finishing buddy Chris Braund on the route and we completed together just before 8am on Monday morning.

I was very surprised at the Kent landscape - it was rolling hills, forests, and all the villages and buildings were all olde worlde.

While we were on holiday, the car clocked q milestone mileage.

Fremington Friday! It was a lovely morning up t'hill. To include the Blonde Bullet, we parked near the bench just above High Fremington so the walk was of OK length for her. As you can see from her smiling face, she is glad to be back.

Last week I said that hopefully the little challenges were behind us however that changed last night. As I was driving back up North on the A1M, a deer ran across the motorway straight in front of my car Sebastian.
Needless to say that although he has sustained damage; a cracked bumper, radiator grill, and headlight - he faired considerably better than the deer. I pulled onto the hard shoulder and checked the damage and when saw Sebastian was driveable, I got back in and headed home via the supermarket.
I am actually quite impressed the damage was not worse as I have heard of cars being written off when they make contact with the deer, so despite of the damage I feel very lucky. The timing is bad but at least I am not without wheels.

On Sunday it is the last concert of our orchestra season in Halifax. We will be performing at the Victoria Theatre. I am glad to see the back of this concert as it was all musicals again and I do find musical music tedious. We have 4 singers performing with us so that should liven up the dynamic.

At the concert we will be thanking and saying goodbye to two stalwarts of the orchestra; John Marshall and Trevor Slade, as they retire after 60 and 50 years in the orchestra. That is impressive stuff. I was at high school when I joined the orchestra so I have done over 30 years. Monday night rehearsals for 30 years - you get less for murder.

Wishing you all the lovely weekend.

Fremington Friday! Ginger Fella had company on his post this morning. The Blonde Bullet is back (in a limited capacity).

Gadge was at the consultant on Wednesday for her post-op 6 week check-up and he was very pleased with her progress and signed her off. We need to increase her walks by 5 minutes each week until she reaches an hour. So we have another 6 weeks to go, but it is all moving in the right direction. I have been trying to get hydrotherapy sessions, but the sessions available are not full-time worker friendly, so we are just going to use the river instead! Where there is a will there is a way!

The dogs have not had a great start to the year, but that all seems to be behind us now and we can move on with on with getting them fit and strong again, so we can get back to doing what we enjoy most which is being out and about.

Talking of being out - there was a lot of outdoor housework last weekend. I cannot say I enjoyed any of it but the front of the house and the garden are looking a lot better. The greenhouse is a bit of a shocker so that may be on the cards for this weekend - weather and time permitting.

The weather is not looking that great this weekend so the greenhouse may be saved. I am sure I just heard it breath a sigh of relief. 😂

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Fremington Friday. It was a lovely morning up the hill. Ginger fella is getting back into the routine of it again. Due to some many weeks of light duties the walk does leave him tired, but he will get his fitness back.

Last weekend was the Fellsman. It wasn't pretty but I did make it to the finish.
The heat during the day on Saturday really did me in, but once the temperature finally dropped on Saturday night I was back on normal form.
I have said that is definitely it - no more Fellsman, but I have a feeling I may be back for one more go next year. Then that is it!
After that I am switching to the event team and either manning a hillside checkpoint or joining the sweeper team. They look to have a lot more fun!

This weekend it is on with outdoor housework. The garden and weeds have taken over so I will try to tidy it all up. There will be casualties. Flowers removed as misidentified as weeds and weeds saves as misidentified as flowers.
The mower is not working so everything strimmed - more casualties, but at least it will all be short.

I am working on Monday so at least the garden will only be savaged for two days instead of 3!

Have a lovely Bank Holiday everyone. Let us know if you are doing anything exciting.

Fremington Friday. It was lovely up the hill this morning and as you can see Ginger Fella was there as life is getting back to the normal.

When this post goes out I will be queueing for registration for the Fellsman. A 60+ mile route from Ingleton to Threshfield (near Grassington) to be completed within 30 hours. This is the event I said I wouldn't do again and here I am.....doing it again. I was even impatient when they pushed the entry date back. 😂

Due to suffering a ni**le in the 75-miler that has taken many weeks to clear and the dogs being out of action, I am massively undertrained for this event and carrying half a stone more than normal all thanks to Cadbury's.
Good weather and determination will be the only things that will get me to the finish.

The dogs are booked into a suite at the local kennels with sofa, TV, and private garden. Rhubarb enquired as to whether the TV had Netflix as he would like to watch Adolescence (I do not have Netflix), but sadly it doesn't.
I have told them both to be on their best behaviour. I don't want a phone call when I am up the top of a mountain asking for me to collect them. 😂

Everyone have a lovey weekend. I know I won't be, well I will be. I will be loving it even if my face and body language says otherwise.

Fremington Friday. He's back! (Again). Ginger fella is all healed and back on his post. Woohoo! I am really please too as he does not appear to be reacting negatively to other dogs which is a huge relief.

We are still a long way off normal life as we need to strengthen his back legs so they move better and less like a shopping trolley with dodgy wheels. The Blonde Bullet has two more weeks of convalescing before we can start her rehab. By the end of May we should be in full rehab swing and aiming to be on the road to normal by August.

The garden is waking up and with equal measure of sun and rain, it looks like some outdoor housework this weekend. I have a reccy walk on Sunday ahead of the Fellsman event next week. I have not been this fat and unfit for a while, so making it to the starting will be an achievement. Finishing it will be an miracle.

Whatever you are up to - have a great weekend. We shall see you on the other side if spared.

10/04/2026

Fremington Friday! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter. We had a weekend over in Holmfirth which was nice and caught up with Grandad Roy and Whirlwind Maggie.

Dog update - The Ginger Fella has healed well! The wounds on his shoulder (that had to be stapled) and on the front of his leg are all healed, the scabs have been and gone and now he is just left with white scar marks which fur will easily cover. The large wound on the back of his leg has completely closed up and has a small scab. Due to the placement we are keeping him on light duties this week as we do not want it pulling off and opening the wound. The vet has said he can return to normal walking on Monday. Woohoo!

The Blonde Bullet is going very well. She is halfway through the recovery period and we are hoping we get full sign off in three weeks to then get her and Rhubarb into hydro therapy.

I have started doing strengthening games to give them something to do and wear them out mentally. They enjoy the games and it breaks up the boredom for them.

This weekend I need to get some training in for an event I have at the end of the month. Lack of dog walking and nursing a ni**le with my hindfoot has scuppered all my training and route reccy plans. My focus for the next two weeks is getting a footwear combination that will get me through 65 miles with little to no discomfort. A tall ask at the moment, but I am positive I will achieve a suitable set-up.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Fremington Good Friday! It was a bit damp and cold this morning. I had to put my gloves on to keep the hands warm.

Thank you for all the lovely comments and well wishes for Ginger Fella last week.
He is recovering very well and loving all the attention and vets trips. Rhubarb loves going to the vets - any vets, he doesn't care just as long as it is the vets.

The vet is impressed at how quickly he is healing, especially the big deep wound on the back of his paw. Which is over 50% closed up. I put it down to their daily teaspoon of kefir. The five staples were removed on Monday. We have a final follow-up appointment next week.

I have located the owner and now it is lighter evenings I will call round one night this week.

Good news on the Blonde Bullet. She had her stitches out on Tuesday and the consultant said he was happy with her progress so far. We are back in four weeks.

Last weekend, to keep the dogs entertained I started gamifying the rehab exercises. Rhubarb was well on it and loving them. Gadge just gave me her intense vacant stare - more effort required getting her to master them.

Wishing you all a lovely Easter weekend.

It was a solo trip the up the hill this morning. All will be revealed in the dog update below.

Blonde Bullet - recovery is good and she is moving so well. It has been 9 days since her operation and we are now up to 3 x 10 minutes walks a day. Her stitches are coming out on Tuesday. It will be nice to have an update from the consultant on how well he thinks her progress is.

Ginger Fella - On Monday morning towards the end our walk, an out of control dog came from nowhere and attacked Rhubarb. He sustained nasty wounds to his shoulder, front leg and back of his paw which needed urgent medical treatment. He has 5 staples in the shoulder wound and the others are being left to heal. The one on the back of his paw is really deep and big and there isn't enough to stitch together so we just need to let it heal. We had a follow up consultation on Thursday and the vet is very happy with the wound healing so far and we just need to keep walks to a minimum for infection control of the large wound on the paw.

Rhubarb got stuck in and gave as good as he got. I was very proud. I helped with a couple of boot kicks before managing to grab the attacking dog by the scruff of its neck and pull it away. Once the owner caught up with us then grabbed the dog off me and restrained it. He was mortified this had happened. The dog had slipped its collar. The other dog has sustained injuries too and has a ripped ear as a reminder of that bad life choice.

Whilst it was an unfortunate situation, I am glad it happened to me and Rhubarb and not someone else. If I had both dogs with me or just Gadge it could of had a different outcome. She wouldn't have fought back and if she had run that could have damaged her recovering elbow beyond repair.
Also if this had happened to an older or less able person, a smaller breed, puppy or older dog they may not have not survived the attack, so I am glad it picked a fair fight. Obviously Rhubarb was clearly winning!

The staples will be removed next week and then we will have a better idea of the wound healing and when he can get back out again. I will need to reintroduce him to dogs as I do not know whether the incident will have made him reactive.
So far, he has been OK, but I will manage it carefully. I remained calm throughout the whole incident, in my usual emotionally detached way, so I am hoping that has helped by not heightening his protect and response mode. Fingers crossed anyway.

We are now trying to track down the owner. I want to understand what he is doing to prevent this happening again. The dog needs to be muzzled and on secure harness as a minimum. This dog was whippet/terrier cross from a rescue charity so you would think it would have been assessed for this before being rehomed.

With two different sets of medication and pill popping schedules, restricted duties, wound treatment, it is like running a dog nursing home! I am run ragged!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
