Don't forget to wave to George as you go past.

He's easy to spot as you drive between Osmington and Weymouth.

George has been on the hillside since the early 1800s. It's a representation of King George III, a regular visitor to Weymouth over 200 years ago.

The king loved to ride around the local area during his holidays here.

He had a house on the seafront in Weymouth - it's now The Gloucester. We don't suppose he did self-catering!

Say 'hi' to Highland cows! You can at Porter's Farm, on Portland.

You can also see Saddleback pigs, pygmy goats, chickens, bunnies (please don't say the 'r' word on Portland)... and more.

They offer Meet & Greet experiences where you can get up close to the animals.

They have a delightful cafe, and friendly staff who are happy to talk about the animals.

Porter's Farm is 35-minute drive from us.

There's a surprise around every corner!

Tout Quarry and Nature Reserve, on Portland, is free sculpture park set in an old quarry on Portland.

If you walk far enough you'll discover incredible sea views.

From the moment you arrive at your self-catering holiday cottage, you’re spoilt for choice for things to do. Our estate gardens, right outside your door, are a haven for wildlife.

We’re surrounded by open fields and quiet footpaths, and it’s a relatively short walk to the coast, or the historic Smugglers’ Inn at Osmington.

Go a little further to discover the Georgian seafront and family-friendly beach at Weymouth, or the busy county town of Dorchester.

Popular and family-friendly attractions nearby include the primate haven of Monkey World, the heavyweight displays at the Tank Museum and the haunted Nothe Fort.

Other places of interest include the rock arch of Durdle Door, the atmospheric ruins of Corfe Castle, and the ‘lost’ village of Tyneham.

There are so many places to see, and so much to do - all within a short walk or drive from us.

Thomas Hardy is one of Britain's literary greats.

He was born near us, and lived most of his life in our local area.

The cottage where he was born and grew up is now a museum you can visit.

The house he built for himself, Max Gate, is also open to visitors. Both are run by the National Trust.

They really easy to get to from us - just a few minutes away by car.

Are you looking forward to experiencing the partial eclipse this evening?

The best places to see it, near us, include Maiden Castle (just outside Dorchester), the Hardy Monument, or from Chesil Beach, or on Portland. You want to get somewhere high, with a good view to the west.

The sun will be a couple of hours away from sunset when the eclipse starts.

Take care to use special glasses if you want to look at it directly.

Is anyone making a pinhole camera, or planning to use a colander to view it?
