One last New Forest adventure before the school holidays are over...

The last week of the summer holidays — including the Bank Holiday weekend — is nearly here, and we still have some availability at Red Shoot Camping Park!

The forecast may not be wall-to-wall sunshine, but we need the rain — and a little shower never stopped a proper camping adventure! There’s something rather lovely about getting cosy in the tent, listening to the pitter-patter and then heading out to enjoy the forest when the sun reappears. Come and see how quickly the brown, sun-scorched ground turns green again!

And there’s some good news for anyone who has been following our recent cooking restrictions — gas cooking is now permitted again! So you can pack your gas stove and get back to enjoying a proper camping breakfast, a cuppa in the morning and dinner under the awning.

The school holidays are nearly over, so why not squeeze in one last family escape to the New Forest before the routines, alarm clocks and packed lunches return?

Great news!

We are pleased to let you know that gas cooking appliances are now permitted at Red Shoot Camping Park, in line with the latest Forestry England guidance issued on their New Forest campsites.

This does not mean the risk of fire has gone away, and you must continue to remain careful and vigilant. The following restrictions remain strictly in place until further notice:
• ❌ No charcoal BBQs
• ❌ No disposable BBQs
• ❌ No campfires
• ❌ No fire pits
• ❌ No solid-fuel cooking equipment
• ❌ No liquid-fuel cooking equipment
• ❌ No other naked flames

Important: All permitted gas cooking appliances must be well off the ground and supervised at all times. You must also keep a bucket of water and/or a fire extinguisher close at hand.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and for helping us keep the Camping Park and surrounding forest safe.

🌿 What a brilliant family! 💚

A big THANK YOU to this lovely family, who took advantage of our ‘Litter Picking Station’ and headed out into the forest armed with buckets and litter pickers.

And just look at what they collected! 😮👏

Our old phone box has been re-invented into little picking station, where our campers can borrow litter pickers and buckets and help keep the New Forest looking beautiful while they are out exploring. It is always especially heartening to see youngsters getting involved — learning that they can make a real difference to the places they enjoy visiting. 🌳💚

Every piece of litter picked up is one less piece left behind.
So, if you're staying with us, why not grab a picker and bucket before you head out? You never know what you might find… although we’re hoping your haul isn't quite as impressive as this one! 😂

🍂 Autumn is calling… and the children are back at school! 🍂

If you’re ready for a quieter New Forest escape now the summer holidays are over, we have three gaps remaining at The Byre, our beautiful two-bedroom holiday cottage:

📅 21st – 24th September
📅 28th September – 2nd October
📅 12th – 23rd October

The Byre is a beautifully converted former dairy parlour, combining rustic charm with modern luxury. With two spacious bedrooms, underfloor heating, a fully equipped kitchen and your own private garden and patio, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a few peaceful days in the forest.

And autumn is a wonderful time to visit the New Forest. 🍁 The crowds have eased, the forest begins to take on its beautiful autumn colours and the annual pannage season means you may even spot pigs roaming freely beneath the trees, just as they have done for centuries.

Following the recent fire in the wider area, we know some people may be wondering whether now is a good time to visit. The New Forest remains open and welcoming to visitors, and there is still plenty of beautiful countryside to explore and enjoy. As always, we ask visitors to follow any local guidance and restrictions that are in place to help protect this very special landscape.

So, if you’re looking for a peaceful autumn break without the school-holiday crowds, why not make The Byre your base?

🔥 WILDFIRE UPDATE – IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OUR GUESTS

Following the latest update from the New Forest National Park Authority, received around 40 minutes ago, we want to provide an important update for everyone staying with us at Red Shoot Camping Park.

Red Shoot Camping Park remains OPEN and is operating as normal. We are welcoming arrivals as usual, and the park and its immediate surroundings are not currently affected by the wildfire. We have also been advised that there is no current threat to the park or our ability to continue operating normally.

However, due to the exceptionally dry conditions and the current wildfire situation, there is now a FULL BAN ON BBQs at Red Shoot Camping Park.

🚫 NO BBQs (Including Gas)
🚫 NO FIRES
🚫 NO BURNING OF WOOD
🚫 NO OUTDOOR FLAMES

We are following the official advice and guidance from the New Forest National Park Authority and are implementing these measures to help protect our guests, our team and the surrounding New Forest.

This is an important safety measure and will be strictly enforced.

🚗 Getting to Red Shoot

The A338 and Ellingham Drove route to Red Shoot remains open and unaffected by the fire.

Please be aware that there is considerably more traffic on local roads because of the A31 closure, so please allow extra time for your journey and take particular care.

If you are travelling from north of Ringwood, you will not be able to use the A31 while it remains closed. Instead, you will need to pick up the A338 from the Salisbury direction and then follow the brown tourist signs along Ellingham Drove to reach us.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep you updated if circumstances change.

The restrictions will remain in place until conditions allow the normal site rules to resume.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We really appreciate everyone helping us to protect this very special part of the country.
